Whilst we on the theme of the Second Division - Latest on REUS
On 18 January 2019, the LFP suspended the rights of Reus to continue competing in La Liga and ten days later the club was expelled from the competition for three years plus a fine of €250,000 due to the nonpayment of players' salaries. After six players were forced to leave due to unpaid wages, Reus have been banned from competing professionally in Spain for three years.
The club's financial woes have been well documented in Spain, with majority shareholder and chief executive Joan Oliver pleading for patience and forgiveness from fans at the end of December. Oliver's hope was he could sell the club to a wealthy investor, despite their estimated debt of €5.2million.
I like to think my part ownership has contributed to their rise from the ashes
I know a Spanish scout from rovers who has shares in them too.
Tbh the more I think of it a fan collective would be the best way to get Ashley out.
The operating costs and capital costs of doing business in the PL make that pretty impossible - especially to buy in at this point. You even see how fan owned clubs in Germany and Spain have changed how they do business the last little while as financial demands have increased.
All that said, it has worked to save some clubs, Portsmouth another example, which might get promoted back to the Championship this year.
