I'm sure this could be read with absolute panic from some people, but it would be nice to see him make a few squads. He should at very least have made the bench in a few cup games last season when Joselu was stinking up the place.

It'll do him well to be in and amongst the first team and hopefully get a bit of game time.

If he's not up to scratch then see how he does for 20 minutes in CM.

There's always talk about signing Carroll, but this time seems like it may actually happen. Joelinton, Gayle, Carroll and Sorenson isn't terrible depth, although not the best. Puts a lot of pressure on Joelinton to hit the ground running though. We do need a better alternative to Gayle as second choice.

I'm sure people will moan but Sorensen coming through is great news, nothing better than young players making the breakthrough.

Carroll is s**** and Sorenson is completely untested. We need better than Carroll or Gayle as 2nd choice and it's not fair to put so much pressure on Joelinton or Sorenson.

Hah that's basically what I said. For what it's worth, I wasn't advocating signing Carroll. We need someone half decent to be second choice to Joelinton. We clearly rate him highly to pay that much money, but a player coming from any league is always a risk. Charlie Austin would've been a good signing a couple years ago, but like Carroll, injuries took their toll.

Likewise I'd have snapped your hand off for Austin 2 years ago but not now. We need someone who will knock in 10 a season and stay fit, doesn't need to be a superstar. Just needs to take pressure off .

I'm trying to think who would fit the bill, but no one comes to mind. Danny Ings going for 20m and others for a similar price just shows that even for a backup we'll have spend some cash. Che Adams cost what, 15m? Or thereabouts, unproven championship. Will quite possibly be another Gayle, and plenty others before him. That might be our best bet budget wise though. Someone like Shane Long or Jay Rodriguez would've been perfect, but again a few years ago.

Looking back at that list I think I may secretly be a southampton fan <laugh>

Guys.. remember we have Gayle and Muto? Yes Gayle's a great Championship striker and a mediocre Premier League striker but I remember that season with Perez a couple years ago they formed a nice partnership and gelled well even though he only scored 6 in 35 apps which is not great at all but he has decent pace, movement and works hard. As long as Gayle scores 5+ and Muto another 5+ with Joelinton scoring the most probably at 10+ then you have others chipping in like Miggy/ Sorenson/ Longstaff / Shelvely / etc we should be fine. I don't think we'll get another striker.. unless we sell / loan one of Muto/Gayle/Sorenson. I can see another ''attacker'' coming in for sure most likely a winger we've been linked to from Ligue 1 who can play as a wide forward and interchange between RW/LW/AM/SS if needed. There's other positions which are of a higher priority anyway like RWB/LWB

I keep forgetting about Muto as a forward. We definitely do need two new wingbacks. Ritchie has done well at lwb, but a specialist in that position would be nice. And an upgrade on Yedlin/Manquillo. I've seen a lot of links to that Sidibe, but not much for the left hand side.

Wouldnt complain with Joelinton, Austin, Muto, Sorensen as our striker options.

Austin would give us great experience up top and probably would be good for Joelinton and Sorensen to learn from in terms of playing PL football, also would give Sorensen a good opportunity too as Muto will probably cover #10 position more then anything, essentially making Sorenson our 3rd choice.

Yeah at 8m Austin could be a good addition. Concerns that his best years may be behind him, but for rotation and depth should still be decent. Only 30. The age policy would come in to play again there, although we signed Fernandez for 6m who is a similar age. Wages may be an issue. In terms of cost, premier League experience and finishing ability, Austin is an obvious option. Only issue is his age and injury history. But conversely he wouldn't be available at that price otherwise.

N'Soki left out of PSG latest squad, we reportedly put a bid in for him according to L'Equipe, also reports a few others are looking at him too

Yeah his age and wages will be a factor, although id like to think he would take a wage cut considering this will probably be his last shot at PL football.

Not 100% sure but I think his contract is up at the end of the season so they want to sell now to get the best fee.

That's why they knocked it back according to reports (yeah i know) as PSG would have had to trigger a one year extension to do that.
