His agent said it all comes down to timing. Mateta wants to prove himself in the Premier League but can only do that when Stoke get promoted so he can play them on a cold, wet and windy Wednesday night.Tsi wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2019 11:55 amNewcastle United bid £20m for Jean-Philippe Mateta – L’Equipe
L’Equipe claim that now Newcastle are one of five English clubs to have had bids of between £18m and £22m (20m euros – 25m euros) turned down by Mainz.
The then 20 year old striker was first linked with Newcastle last summer after scoring 19 goals in 32 Ligue 2 starts when out on loan from Lyon.
In an ironic twist of fate, Newcastle United ended up instead signing Yoshinori Muto from Mainz for £9.5m and then the Bundesliga club spent £9m on Jean-Philippe Mateta as his replacement.

Seeing reports that we made an offer to Rondon but he turned it down, apparently wages not good enough, and he's more likely go to Turkey. Doesn't seem to be coming from any kind of credible or reliable source. With any luck it's made up.

The sun with there ''predicted line up'' if Jose becomes our manager.
In a 4-4-3 formation :
Dubra
Valencia Dias Cahill Fernandes
Miggy Gomes Mata
Perez Falcao Matela
Dubra is a no-brainer. One of the best no.1's in the Prem outside the top 6 for sure. Antonio Valencia I'll take if wages are reasonable he'll bring good pace, experience and strength. Rueben Dias from Benfica is a great prospect but we're stocked up in CB department and why would you want to dislodge the partnerships of Lejune, Schar and Lascelles plus we also have Clark, Fernandez and Dummet as cover. Cahill is too old and past it so no thanks. Would do a good job somewhere else though for like a Brighton/Burnley or the one of the newly promoted sides as he's got great experience and leadership skills, also in that line up is Mario Fernandes who's a decent all-round full-back who I'll take at the right price. Miggy I don't see as a out and out midfielder in a midfield trio but could work if he plays behind the striker making running runs in behind using his speed but favorably it's best to leave him out wide as he has more space to run into. That midfield looks too open and attacking but I'll definitely take Mata and Andre Gomes. Mata's experience, vision, creativity and footballing IQ is of the highest calibure even though he anit got the legs no more but still can do a job playing as a no.10. Andre Gomes would be amazing. One of the best players at Everton with his box-to-box play and energy. A midfield trio of Mata, Gomes and Longstaff is more realistic and would blend as there all different type of players but Longstaff and Gomes can be the work-horses, breaking up play, tackling and keeping things ticking while Mata strings the passes, through balls and license to roam / float where he pleases.
On the attacking front I don't know why we would go for Falcao.. he's too old now for a league like the Premier League plus he never really got to grips with the physical side of the game and has lost a yard of pace so it's best to avoid, in a ideal world Rondon will be our no.9 but we'll have to see. Matela seems promising and realistic he's under 23 with good potential so could see that signing happening, maybe he could play in the middle and have Perez / Miggy on the wings.

Saw that but I’d be quite surprised if he went back there considering the way their fans behaved last time.

At least with the transfer ban he won't have any expectations of signings dashed...

Just seen that Alexander Isak has gone to Real Sociedad for 10m.
Think he would have been a good signing. Though I will add Sociedad may only be buying due to Willian Jose linked with a move away. We have been linked with him in the past

Interesting, because I also read the rumour suggesting that's who Palace want if they do sell Wan Bissaka to Man U. So I wonder if some of those rumours are getting crossed.

Yeah, £22m deal agreed. We can't be expected to compete with Villa tbf.

Linked with Jordan Lukaku again in the press. This time it appears to be a player swap for Lascelles.
Lukaku allegedly failed a medical with us in the January transfer window.

Lukaku cost them €4m in 2016 and played 7 games for them last season, so they'd have to give us Lukaku + £30m
