The SPL is a two horse race and Celtic have shot thier horse in the hoof. As for Lampard, if I had the same resources as him, I'd fancy my own ability to manage Chelsea, I'd definitley have them tighter at the back :)
With their current personnel they seem to resolved their issues at the back. Whether he deserves any credit for that is perhaps debatable.

To the earlier point about Lampard and Gerrard, obviously they get opportunities because of their performance on the pitch, but they also had nearly two decades each as players to demonstrate their leadership, communication skills and potentially football IQ. Obviously not all good players make good managers (regardless of sport), and it remains to be seen if they will, but I'm not surprised players like them move fast as managers and receive the benefit of the doubt.

And especially with Lampard, he didn't walk into Chelsea as his first managerial position. His playing career obviously helped get him the Derby job, where he did well. But he got the Chelsea job on the back of a good season at Derby, and the fact they had a transfer ban, he was a club legend, and they needed a new manager. Perfect storm. I'm surprised more isn't said about Arteta, whom started his managerial career at Arsenal. Top level premier league club. He had coaching experience under Guardiola at City, and whilst played for Arsenal was hardly a legendary player. Arteta was linked to us before Bruce as well, myself included amongst those pointing to him as an option. Highly rated, yet not really done anything to deserve it - in a back room capacity.

Yeah, players like them, including Arteta, get tapped for management before they even finish playing because of what people see while coaching them or playing with them. So if they want to put in the work and go down the path, they'll get opportunities until they've proven they can't handle them.

Yeah early days for arteta, 4 wins and 4 losses in the PL so far isn’t great for a club of that stature and I don’t think he’ll get them top 4. Will be interesting to see how long it is before fans turn on him if that continues. I saw something that said Emery had a better start to his time at Arsenal than Arteta has and it didn’t take fans long to hound him out.

What an innovative selection. The same carousel of old managers getting jobs - perceived as safe hands until they're inevitably fired again in a year or two.

As someone who isn't as knowledable about the olden days, did managers keep their jobs longer in the past? Or has it always just been one big merry-go-round?

Is this the week of washed out NUFC managers getting director jobs? By Friday it'll be announced that Joe Kinnear is director of bad language at the Council of the European Union <laugh>

Paul Cook the former Wigan manager is the early favourite for the job apparently along with Gus Poyet!
