Definitely a more attractive club than us for Howe, I'd say

I’m sure the Howe deal is done and dusted, not worried at all.

Only £2m compo apparently if it happens.
It is kind of the perfect stepping stone club to get him to the Liverpool job in 2-3 years when Klopp goes. Not 'too big' a club and not a bottom feeder either.

Plus it’s a lot closer to family for him…. all incremental things like that increase the appeal.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Wed Nov 10, 2021 2:58 pmOnly £2m compo apparently if it happens.

Yes logic would seem to make it an ideal gig, to Villa pre Liverpool.
Who knows…

Even when we were linked with Gerrard, it did feel like a risky one. He's done well for Rangers but it's the Scottish League and it will always be a 2 horse race up there. I've seen a few people point to Brendan Rodgers to argue the case for Gerrard but with Rodgers he got the PL experience before heading to Celtic. I think he will have enough to keep them up but I don't think he's going to be performing miracles with them.

Kind of agree , very much a risk as is indeed any appointment.Don Sholeone wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 9:13 amEven when we were linked with Gerrard, it did feel like a risky one. What he has is a decent playing career and will get players respect.
He went quickly when the opportunity arose as did Brendan Rogers as it’s very much a case of the SPFL versus the EPL. On that basis it’s a no contest as most managers want a gig in the EPL. It’s the box office league in football terms.
In terms of club size it’s ironic as Rangers are a massive world wide club (as are Celtic) yet kind of always in a perpetual two horse race.
EPL is the place for these guys, especially when you look to some leagues in Europe, I mean look at France ( continual one horse race ) Germany (continual one horse race).
Be interesting as there is this narrative suggests he will replace Klopp ? Dunno how Villa feel about that. Them a mere stepping stone

Re: The Managerial Merry-Go-Round Thread
I do think Gerrard has the potential to have a very good off the pitch career but at this point in time I feel his reputation as a player is still clouding opinion of him as a manager. I feel like if this was some regular Scottish manager that had the exact same record at Rangers then he would be touted as a massive risk.

Definitely. Someone like Derek McInnes has done decent up there, but would never get a sniff of any prem job.

Rightly or wrongly, I do think their renewed success under Gerrard to return them to the top of the Scottish league gains him extra respect than if it were 15 years ago and they simply won again.Don Sholeone wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 12:38 pmI do think Gerrard has the potential to have a very good off the pitch career but at this point in time I feel his reputation as a player is still clouding opinion of him as a manager. Edit: And I'd add, 2 horse race or not, those two gigs definitely carry scrutiny and pressure similar to a PL job. So at least he's gained that from the managerial side of the persuasion.

Re: The Managerial Merry-Go-Round Thread
I like Gerrard and think he’ll do well. It’s a good job in that they’re extremely unlikely to be relegated but also their fans aren’t exactly expecting European football so if he gets a mid table finish this season they’ll be happy enough. It’s also a big club without being too big for a first PL job.

Dean Smith agrees to become Norwich boss
Re: The Managerial Merry-Go-Round Thread
Huh, neither Norwich or Villa went for Bruce. I bet the experts are shocked!
