Can he be the new Pardew / Bruce / Hughes / Allardyce?

He did have a quick impact at Leeds that fell away, though I think Leeds have more quality than what he'll have to work with at Southampton.

Nah, they had the domestic legacy to keep their careers going long after they deserved to be relegated to the lower leagues. I feel like this is Marsch's last chance in England, and if this goes badly his next job will be back in MLS.

Still very well thought of in the red bull circles so could probably still end up back with a Salzburg or even another chance at Leipzig.

Was talk of US national team being interested but you'd imagine the lure of another PL job would be too good to turn down

True, the Red Bull trust is what he's built his reputation on - and I could see him falling back to that. Also totally see why he'd prioritize staying in club management right now, rather than derail that with the USMNT gig, which would move him further from the world of European football. Klinsmann shot himself in the foot with how he handled the Berlin job after, but I'm sure Marsch is familiar with how it ended his momentum.

Potter is backed by the Chelsea board which is great news for him as it takes the pressure off to get results.

Yeah, more than likely.

It was always doomed to fail. He doesn't work with egos / individuals, he gets players playing as a unit and for the team, where everyone knows their role. Chelsea are the complete opposite. A disjointed group of individuals thrown together at random all doing their own thing.

Maybe if Moyes gets the boot he'll get the West Ham job next season.

Not sure what clubs see in him. Distinctly average manager who has a new club every season.

Could have had Potter if they waited a week or two… <laugh>

I don't know whether to feel bad for Graham Potter or not. Always destined to fail, but it's an opportunity you can't pass up. He's not been helped by all these random signings, that he likely had no say on at all.

I got into a lunchtime argument at work with a Chelsea fan last week, who refused to admit their transfer business the past year has been haphazard. Somehow he was defending that they need to buy all these players, including Felix, because they're so devoid of attacking options. But I've no idea how you can spend so much money, negotiation against yourselves, and yet still accept the poor results. To spend so much on such uncertain players is such a risky approach, that should pay more immediate dividends.

To be fair he was technically correct, their transfer business has been haphazard for more than a year <laugh>

As you say it was an opportunity he couldn't turn down, would imagine he more than doubled his wages from Brighton and if sacked he'd get a nice deal.

Tbh not many football managers out there who don't get another chance eventually. Maybe not at the same level but will most likely get another job.

Potter is absolutely nailed for another PL job, not top 6 level but someone else in the pack behind absolutely.

If Leicester and Rodgers parted ways in summer for example then Potter would be perfect.
