Steve Cooper sacked, not a great surprise as Forest have been pretty poor for a while now.

Re: The Managerial Merry-Go-Round Thread
I feel really sorry for Steve Cooper given the fact that the owner's wired up to the moon. They brought in a s*** load of players against his wishes, by that I mean he had no say in most of them not the amount they signed. The general concensus within the game is he's a top, top coach and has got a really strong cv. It was pretty remarkable he kept them up last season given the s*** show that was going on around him. I think he'll be pretty much sought after and won't be out of work for long. I live amongst a lot of Forest fans and I think they'll be extremely disappointed by the news.
My problem is reconciling my gross behaviour with my net income.

Proof that a lot of player transactions doesn't necessary result in success. I sympathise with Cooper though, who likely would have wanted more stability and less turnover. Despite different to rebuilding the squad, Forest and Burnley illustrate the challenges when you rely so heavily on loan players to get promoted to the PL.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 3:05 pmSteve Cooper sacked, not a great surprise as Forest have been pretty poor for a while now.

Re: The Managerial Merry-Go-Round Thread
I think that after the start of last season he did pretty well and they were pretty decent, and hard to play against at home (after the World Cup break which really helped them). But this season has been pretty poor for the most part.Remember Colo wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 4:30 pmProof that a lot of player transactions doesn't necessary result in success. Re: The Managerial Merry-Go-Round Thread
Yeah they've been poor, losing 5-0 didn't help at all, owners were just waiting to pull the trigger after that.
Still think they'll stay up as Burnley, Luton and Sheffield Utd aren't great either.

You'd have got reasonably good odds on Luton being the best placed of the 3 promoted sides at Christmas I imagine! Standard is so poor at the bottom this season.lassassinblanc wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 5:25 pmYeah they've been poor, losing 5-0 didn't help at all, owners were just waiting to pull the trigger after that.

Everton have more wins this season than anyone from p9 downwards, what a job Dyche is doing! Sadly.

Rooney sacked after 15 games in charge of Birmingham City
When will teams learn that great players have no right to walk into big managerial jobs despite having little to no managerial merit? Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney - none have shown that they are 'elite' managers so why are they given Championship / Premier League jobs?

I'm surprised he's not linked to be in the running actually. Bookies have Cooper as the favourite, but I can't see him going there at this stage. His reputation is intact after the Forest thing, and why I think the rumours to Palace are premature - he would make good sense as a replacement for the wise old owl at the end of the season. He'll be in the mix for other lower prem/higher champo jobs as well.

Agreed. Cooper will definitely sit tight and wait for a relegation fight PL level job that will inevitably come up sooner rather than later. Birmingham (as they are) is too big a step down right now.Valentino's fast feet wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 2:18 pmI'm surprised he's not linked to be in the running actually. Talking of Championship, Southampton are on the march after a shaky start and closing down Ipswich who are dropping points.

It can be an exciting league at times, there's usually one maybe two strong contenders for promotion. Usually one of the relegated sides, but you often get all sorts of teams around the play off spots at various parts of the season. Nice to see less familiar names sometimes, rather than the same group of yo yo clubs.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 3:38 pmAgreed. Going back to Cooper for a second, I thi k he should definitely keep his powder dry till the summer. There's an outside chance he could be in the frame to replace Southgate. I know he's Welsh, but has history with the England youth teams, and we could do a lot worse. There's not really any likely candidates out there to be fair, and I do think it'll be vacant one way or another after the euros.
And despite our recent woes, they aren't having Howe.

Hopefully not. I’m sure his days of club management are past. He is all mouth and controversy now, although his ego will drive him towards another slot somewhereUlversToon wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 10:32 amMourinho sacked by Roma, won't be long before he's linked to us.
Maybe a gig with Portugal national team or a final hurrah in UAE

Re: The Managerial Merry-Go-Round Thread
Even putting aside his style of football, his recent record isn't great and that includes two (3 if you include the spell where Chelsea sacked him) Premier League sides. Ship has sailed on that one for me.

Yeah f*** that. No thank you.
It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

Mourinho is definitely a busted flush nowadays.
Once elite, now average at best.
