It was reported by some journalists after the Kenyon failed bid that Ashley would need proof of funds before the negotiations to weed out time wasters. The same journalists this time around claiming no proof of funds have been submitted gotta love the pressOver The Line wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2019 12:31 pm5 days after the Leicester game which confirmed survival too.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2019 12:14 pm
I don't think it was released to Lee Ryder specifically, just a general press release.
Interesting bit is "The proof of funds statement was forwarded to Mike Ashley’s lawyers on 17 April 2019"...I'm still clinging on to this being why Rafa seemed so much happier in the last couple of months!

Well they aren't contradictory. I mean, based on today's news it sounds as though they had been submitted, so they were wrong about it, but it could have been true. Plus, the wealth of this buyer is much better known than Kenyon and Staveley before who were just fronts without a lot of personal wealth (relatively speaking), so I imagine Ashley reacted a little differently to this bidder than some of the past ones.Tsi wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2019 1:38 pmIt was reported by some journalists after the Kenyon failed bid that Ashley would need proof of funds before the negotiations to weed out time wasters. 5 days after the Leicester game which confirmed survival too.

Now I'm all in.

It's probably a bit of that and a bit of certain journalists love to dash our hopes when anything good seems to happen to us.Remember Colo wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2019 1:54 pmWell they aren't contradictory. One of my wife's relatives murdered his wife and kids back in 1939, court found that he was unfit to plead. I sleep with one eye open.
I'm the scumbag outlaw. You're the pillar of justice. Neither of us like looking at ourselves in the mirror. Do we have a deal?

Let's be honest an Arab blood feud in the PL would be amazing
Re: Ashley Agrees to Sell Newcastle for £350m!
The club really should release a statement at this point. They are the only ones who can confirm what the f*** is going on.

This.
It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

They shouldn't. Once the sale has gone through then the club should announce it. The last thing they should be doing is providing a running commentary.
The club probably know as much as us anyway. The only people who'll know anything are the buying group and Mike Ashley and his lawyers. I doubt they'll be relaying much information to the club.

This. The Bin Zayed company should be doing the same, it’s actually weird the daily statements and a big part of why I think this is all ****.
Re: Ashley Agrees to Sell Newcastle for £350m!
The fact the club have said nothing during this is the one thing that fills me with hope that it's going to happen as there has been no denial.
I also agree with what colly and tjr have said.

Or it could be what was mentioned before in the article linked in this thread
Also take into account that their integrity has been questioned since this broke. It’s not unusual for Arab businessmen to blow their horns loud once they feel they have achieved something.
I know where you're coming from though as we've been here before and the majority won't believe it till it's a done deal and announced.

Kinda weird that the only ones handling this with a bit of professionalism is the club itself
To be honest I'm at the point where I just wish the news hadn't broke, as exciting as the first 24 hours was it's kinda getting annoying now, I just don't get why there has to be a rollercoaster ride that goes hand in hand with a takeover, get a deal done then announce it, because nobody need to know what's happening in the middle.
