50 years since our last trophy
Chronicle have a piece up from Moncur and Frank Clark, talking about the Fair's Cup final. 50 years and winning nowt, grim. I can't see us winning anything under Ashley, I'd like my dad to see us win something in his lifetime.

incidentally my dad's second cousin was Alan Foggon

Re: 50 years since our last trophy
Until someone takes over and spends a few hundred million on players (and have a good manager as well) then i highly doubt we'll see any trophies, unless we fluke one like Blue & Maroon said.
Re: 50 years since our last trophy
Can't see us winning anything anytime soon.
Could all change with new owners but even then it is difficult. Man City and Liverpool are so far ahead of everyone else now I can't see anyone other than those two winning the league or a domestic cup in the next few years.

If they bugger off from the PL to an European super league.. maybe 'lesser' sides could win stuff. Have the super league for the oil billions and commercial powerhouses and have a league left with some competition.TJR wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 1:10 pmCan't see us winning anything anytime soon.

Within 5 years we'll win something. Fingers crossed they bring back the Texaco Cup.

Don't forget we won the Anglo Italian Cup in 1973 by beating Fiorentina. Quite an achievement really considering Swindon Town, Blackpool, Notts County and the mighty Sutton United were the only other English clubs to win this prestigious trophy.

I think we'll fluke a (formerly known as the Carling) Cup in like 8 years' time.

Mbappe will fire us to the title next season.

There's a "tier" system of trophies we've won IMO:UlversToon wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 6:06 pmDon't forget we won the Anglo Italian Cup in 1973 by beating Fiorentina. Tier A: Top division titles, FA cups, Fairs Cup
Tier B: Charity Shields, Intertoto Cup
Tier C: Second division titles
Tier D: Texaco Cup, Anglo-Italian Cup
The Fairs Cup and the Intertoto Cup are tricky competitions to categorise. By 1969 the Fairs Cup was definitely the predecessor to the UEFA Cup, even if it isn't UEFA-sanctioned, but a Fairs Cup win in say, 1955 was very different than the way we won it. The Intertoto changed formats so often that it's difficult to pin down, and even then a trophy you win 'by default' (as we did) is a strange one - like a trophy for winning a group stage rather than a knockout.

Intertoto Cup definitely isn’t Tier B, more like D.
I'm the scumbag outlaw. You're the pillar of justice. Neither of us like looking at ourselves in the mirror. Do we have a deal?

Re: 50 years since our last trophy
The Intertoto at least related to matches in the UEFA Cup. The Texaco Cup and Anglo-Italian Cup were basically glorified pre-season tournaments - to the extent that it's hard to find online who even played in the final. I had to look in the NUFC Ultimate Record.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2019 10:24 amIntertoto Cup definitely isn’t Tier B, more like D.
