Post by TJR » Fri Jul 12, 2019 2:41 pm

Our mangerless squad fly to China this weekend to start our preseason tour in China. We'll compete in the PL Asian Trophy playing two games.

The first will be against Wolves in Nanjing on Wednesday (17th) with a 6pm (local time) kick off. After this we'll make our way to Shanghai the following Saturday (2oth) where the winners of our game with Wolves will play the winners of Man City's game with West Ham at 7.30pm (local time). The losers will contest a 3rd place play off game at 5pm (local time). All games are live on Sky Sports.

So in summary our fixtures are:
Wolves - Wed 17th July 6pm - Nanjing
West Ham - Sat 20th July 5pm - Shanghai

The Squad making the trip is as follows:
GK: Darlow, Dubravka, Harker & Woodman.
DF: Bailey, Clark, Dummett, Fernandez, Lascelles, Lazaar, Manquillo, Ritchie, Schar, Sterry & Watts.
MF: Aarons, Colback, Hayden, Ki, M.Longstaff, S.Longstaff, Murphy & Shelvey.
FW: Allan, Gayle, Joselu & Muto.

Players missing the trip for international & injury reasons are as follows:
Almiron, Atsu, Elliot, Lejeune, Saivet & Yedlin.

I read an article somewhere speculated that, as an official Premier League affiliated set of friendly fixtures; being televised live in the UK, there's an obligation for media duties to be fulfilled by someone at the club. As such, we should open betting as to whom from the club will be left holding the baby with the dirty nappy. <parrot>

I expect Sky will help aplologise with excuses such as 'Rafa being in the same country (within a 1500 mile radius) was a distraction and thus caused these inevitable poor performances'.

Nah, pundits are rightfully going to criticize the team for playing utterly dire football this season. It's going to be impressively unattractive.

I'll have some duck wraps or duck rolls to start, followed by Szechuan chicken and boiled rice, please.

Apparently wolves only have 12 senior players in their squad, they’ll still turn us over <laugh>

It is only preseason. More about managing squad fitness than anything else.

I think the grim part is that is pretty close to full strength.

But at least we've made a good start. Only 2 down inside the first half an hour.

It isn't really though, Ciaran Clark is our 5th choice centre half, Sterry won't be anywhere near it and Lazaar probably the same. I'd be disappointed if any of those centre mids started against Arsenal, other than Hayden who'll be gone.

It's short Dubravka, Yedlin, Schar, Lejeune (if playing 3 at the back), Dummett and/or Ritchie, Ki, Longstaff and Almiron, all whom would be in your first 11.

I mean Wolves would tonk them too, but this is definitely one for fitness rather than anything else.
