Match day thread - NUFC V Arsenal

Post by Toondes » Sun Aug 11, 2019 6:58 am

Arsenal (h)

The Magpies begin their Premier League season this afternoon, when they host the Gunners at SJP.

It's a 2pm kick-off live on Sky Sports and tickets remain on public sale to personal callers - the online purchase and collect option is closed.

Guide to rules changes affecting PL games

A coalition of supporters are calling for a boycott of this game (#BoycottArsenal) as part of ongoing protests against Mike Ashley's ownership of Newcastle United.

They have organised a march on Sunday from Sports Direct on Northumberland Street at 1pm, going via Blackett Street, Percy Street and Leazes Park Road to reach the SJP club shop on Strawberry Place where a demonstration will be staged from 1.30pm.

Following the departure of Rafa Benitez, the Wor Flags group confirmed that they won't host any further matchday displays inside SJP until further notice.

Metro:

There's a line closure between Airport and Regent Centre all day Sunday with replacement bus 900 service operating details

Dedicated match buses run from Metro Centre (X50) and Gosforth Great Park (Q3) details

NUFC: Injury rules out DeAndre Yedlin, Florian Lejeune and Christian Atsu, while Jack Colback, Rolando Aarons, Jamie Sterry, Achraf Lazaar and Henri Saivet all failed to make the 25 man PL squad confirmed on Friday.

Matt Ritchie has returned to training after coming off during the Hibernian friendly with a sore hamstring.

His lack of fitness makes it redundant, but Dwight Gayle will complete a two match ban on Sunday that began following his dismissal while on loan at West Bromwich Albion back in May.

Also ineligible to play is the returning Andy Carroll - although he's also in no state to feature and isn't predicted to be available for a month.

Newcastle to beat Arsenal 10/3
Newcastle to win 1-0 12/1
Joelinton first scorer 17/2
Joelinton anytime scorer 3/1
The draw 11/4 (0-0 draw 11/1)
Arsenal to beat Newcastle 8/11
Newcastle to miss a penalty 16/1

Football Specials market:

NUFC to lose their first three PL games 6/1
NUFC top ten finish & Sheffield Utd relegated 11/2
NUFC, Brighton & Norwich all relegated 33/1
NUFC & Villa both relegated, Man City win PL 9/1
NUFC & Burnley both relegated 16/1

AFC: Arsenal statement, Friday:

'Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac will not be part of the squad for our opening match against Newcastle United following further security incidents which are being investigated by the police.'

Kieran Tierney concluded his transfer from Celtic, while David Luiz arrived from Chelsea, but neither were registered in time to play on Sunday.

Nicolas Pepe and Alexandre Lacazette and Mohamed Elneny are doubtful while Hector Bellerin, Rob Holding, Dinos Mavropanos and Emile Smith Rowe are definitely out.

Laurent Koscielny has completed a permanent transfer to French side Bordeaux, while Alex Iwobi made a deadline day switch to Everton.

The Gunners rounded off their pre-season with a 1-2 defeat by Barcelona at the Nou Camp on Saturday.

Travel: Be aware of road closures in the city centre this weekend in the Blackett Street area related to the family fun weekends. That will also see some bus stops closed and routes diverted.

The NUFC Foodbank collection will be taking place on Strawberry Place from Noon - please support it with donations of food or cash if you're able to.

Think they’ll have too much for us in attack and can see our strike force taking a few games to gel.

0-2

PL posted up the 4-4 highlights and instead Tiote ended up trending instead with a lot of nice messages coming from the Arsenal end 💔. We take football far too serious at times, so it's a gentle reminder that it's just a game to enjoy and love, not something to divide us but bring us to together. Life's too short for the **** infighting and arguing going on right now.

Anyways I hope everyone has a great day, boycott or no boycott.

3-1 to us, Joelinton x2, Almirons first goal too. Come onnnn!!

Good time to play Arsenal. They've got loads of players out or doubtful for varying reasons.

We can definitely exploit the Arsenal defence. I see it being 2-1 either way or maybe 2-2.

Though I'm going BTTS and Over 2.5 goals so it'll probably be a 0-0 draw.

Sky reporting the line up as 4-2-3-1, looks to be the 5-3-2 though

I read it as a 5-3-2 but could easily be switched to 4-2-3-1 or 4-5-1 if Ritchie pushes up onto the wing

That arsenal defence looks s***, plus they’ve several very inexperienced players - in feeling optimistic.
