League Cup: Leicester (h)
Re: League Cup: Leicester (h)
Sad to not go through but can't really complain with our second string getting a draw against Leicester's starting XI - hopefully that gives us a little bit of confidence to take to the weekend.

This. Watford at home is a bigger game. If we win that will keep Watford bottom. Potential relegation contenders this season?

Yeah same here. Great win at Spurs, held a good full strength Leicester side in 90 mins - hopefully everyone feels confident ahead of Saturday and we get 3 points.
Anyway, we all know we’d just have ended up getting Man C or Liverpool in the next round

Terrible lazy penalty by shelvey, agree would have been nice to go through but league is priority

What makes a penalty lazy? It can be bad, but "lazy" seems a bit cliche when used to criticise Shelvey.lassassinblanc wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2019 9:08 pmTerrible lazy penalty by shelvey, agree would have been nice to go through but league is priority

Using the word cliché without the " ' " in defense of Shelvey is a bit lazy.Remember Colo wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2019 9:29 pmWhat makes a penalty lazy? Luton (a) is a tricky game and a potential banana skin knowing us we would have lost 0-1. So yeah onwards and upwards!Tsi wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2019 9:39 pmNext round draw

Shame about the result.
The return of high volumes of soft tissue injuries is concerning me - under Rafa we had virtually zero and right now we have at least 4 (ASM, Krafth, Willems, Gayle). That is an oft-forgotten Achilles heel of ours historically...

Given that Bruce only came in 3 weeks before the start of the season I wouldn’t have thought that his training methods would have lead this quickly to soft tissue injuries (if that’s what they all are, I don’t know). Could just be coincidence or the sort of things that are common in the early part of the season as players start playing at near 100% intensity again.

Not that it matters to us anymore, but is the draw seeded as there are no all Premier League ties?Tsi wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2019 9:39 pmNext round draw

Morning after thoughts. Genuinely thought we played well against a full strength Leicester side, so to get a draw with an unfamiliar attacking trio especially after the injuries was a good result. Gutted to go out on penalties. Fingers crossed the injuries aren't too bad.
I thought Willems looked miles better this time out and just needs a bit of time to settle in. Top marks for the massive dive. Fernandes was outstanding, did all the defensive stuff right, but was happy on the ball too. Did he put the cross in for the goal? If Lascelles is doubtful for Saturday, or even if he isn't, I'd have no qualms about dropping him back in. Might end up there anyway if Dummett ends up having to play left back. Shelvey usual hot and cold, few decent crosses second half and what looked a good long range effort that Schmeichel had to palm away, but also plenty of wayward balls that put us under pressure, including in the lead up to their goal. Happy to have him in the squad, but happier still with the Hayden and Longstaff combo.

Re: League Cup: Leicester (h)
s*** , but hay hoh, the lottery of penalties, best to ignore
The point of concern is the growing injury list, hopefully Ritchie isn't as bad as feared
As an 11 v 11 adventure we showed up well, the game could have been won by either team in the 90. So from a playing and settling pov not bad.
Major focus now versus Watford, this game has the potential for a bit of a feel good partial launch into the league campaign, or for a brutal jolt and its back to the very difficult to do tray.

I thought last season it was very harsh when Fernandez got dropped, he was playing really well. Nice problem to have when Lejeune is back too. Lascelles / Schar / Dummett / Fernandez / Lejeune - any three of those would make a decent back three.

Re: League Cup: Leicester (h)
He picked up an injury after his run of form, and wasn't quite the same player when he came back. On last nights evidence he's up there again though.

I can see Fernandez holding his place for Saturday to give Jamal at three week break to recover. I wouldn't be concerned. I think Clark deputised fine too, always was a steady hand and a corner goal threat. Both should be retained
Very good for Muto to get a goal, regardless of how it was scored - will give him confidence. It's funny how backup / flop strikers, e.g. Riviere / Stracqualursi for Everton always seem to rack up the appearance figures and sit in their careers with something like 1 career league goal in the premier league but have scored cup goals which would help their goal to game ratio and are easily forgotten about. Obviously hope Muto gets off the 1 league goal mark this season - Joelinton is going to need the support for sure and Gayle / Carroll are still a month off returning, supposedly.

Did he put his hands on his thighs, show everyone he's knackered and then point to where the ball was going?lassassinblanc wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2019 9:08 pmTerrible lazy penalty by shelvey, agree would have been nice to go through but league is priority
