Exactly, it's hard enough to make annual profit owning a PL club. To instead ownin a L1 club where you rely so heavily on gates, and then investing in the hopes of promotion but at the risk of just throwing money down a well. I'd also add, a fanatical fanbase has it's positives and negatives - as they've found. Sure, they might love you, but they will also turn on you and wish you dead. That's not my idea of a safe investment.Speedo wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 10:47 amTbf £30-40m is just awful value for a club in League 1. You could probably get an established Championship team without the baggage for that. Frankly, even in League 1, why would you go for Sunderland over a club like Ipswich? At least as much history (and much more in Europe), much lower cost base, albeit worse facilities. Without guarantees of promotion, investing in a club like Sunderland in that league is a big risk.biggeordiedave wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 7:57 amApparently BZG (who were looking at buying Newcastle) are now in for them. If someone has a huge pile of money and wants to throw it at a football club then Sunderland are one of the best options out there on the face of it. Huge fanatical fanbase, big ground, good facilities, decent history etc. However, the fact that nobody has despite the club only being worth £30-40m is alarming. That tells me there is something hideous behind the scenes that scares people off. There's talk of it being the £20m that Donald borrowed from the club to help him buy it .

Re: Mackems
As soon as our game with Villa was in question they were falling over themselves wanting points deductions for us. At this stage, the EFL haven't even granted them permission to postpone the games, Sunderland have just told them they won't be playing them. I wonder what their feelings are now...
Kindly deeds done for free!
Re: Mackems
In my life time of supporting us I'd say they have been significant in maybe 3 seasons tops so what they think or do is by the by to me.biggeordiedave wrote: ↑Wed Dec 16, 2020 9:26 pmAs soon as our game with Villa was in question they were falling over themselves wanting points deductions for us. I've never seen them as rivals or relevant to the extent that a lot of ours and their supporters do, we haven't been in the same league as them for what 3 seasons now.

Forget about the football, the way ASM slaughters Sunderland fans on twitter is worth the transfer fee on its own.

Just posted this in another thread but is more relevant here.
Blimey, in the Mackems post-match analysis they just said that they have 16 players either out of contract or finishing loans this summer. Could be a completely new lineup next season.

Wish them well next season, bigger club that League 1. But ultimately couldn't care less. Live and let be or whatever the phrase is, they've got their struggles and we've got ours. There's no overlap. Let's focus on us.

Any Newcastle fan travelling down there to get some snippets of video in the hopes of it going viral should probably find some new hobbies.
One day I look forward to renewing the rivalriy, but admittedly I hope we're in a better state ourselves when that time comes.

Apparently it's come out that Stuart Donald and co are technically still in charge at Sunderland Kyril Louis-Dreyfus only owns 41% with the rest owned by Donald/Sartori and that other bloke.
Predictably it hasn't gone down well at all

I'm enjoying the RTG meltdown. Can tell how few over there understand how corporate ownership and board politics works. I recommend they watch 3 seasons of Succession to get up to speedDon Sholeone wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 4:54 pmApparently it's come out that Stuart Donald and co are technically still in charge at Sunderland Kyril Louis-Dreyfus only owns 41% with the rest owned by Donald/Sartori and that other bloke.

Owner lying to them from day one, a bad sign. Who would have thought a billionaire trust fund baby wouldn't be entirely truthful?
meanwhile they have the 14th highest attendances in England 30,600, above 7 premier league teams. https://theathletic.com/3131889/2022/02 ... sunderland

They have crazy support. Might get worse now though. I asume this was the last drop in the cup for a lot of them
I really want Sunderland back in EPL, but I embrace real life humour too much to not find this funny.
I also enjoy when life shows me karma in full circle
My first thought when I heard this was.. They've lied to everyone so they could make a netflix series. Netflix wouldn't do this if they knew the majority was still in the hands of the old owner
