I really enjoyed the first series, and it wasn't so much schadenfreude as it was just interest in seeing how a club is managed. It actually made me dislike them less.

"What good looks like" might have become one of the most overused line of business management speak in the past few years - and that's saying something!UlversToon wrote: ↑Tue Mar 24, 2020 8:29 pmJust in case anybody needs cheering up at the moment this will keep you entertained on April fools day:-

I felt the same, could definitely empathise with the frustration of their fans. Still enjoyed seeing them go down thoughbiggeordiedave wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 9:13 amI really enjoyed the first series, and it wasn't so much schadenfreude as it was just interest in seeing how a club is managed. Was just really an everything that could have gone wrong did.
Martin Bain bit of a prick
Jack Rodwell prick
Grabban prick
Grayson not so much out of his depth more having to put square pegs in round holes while blind folded.
Coleman came across as nice bloke but suffered the same pitfalls as Grayson
Ellis short biggest prick there is... Makes Mike Ashley look good
Johnny Williams you just want to give the lad a hug.
Season 2 the director lad comes across as a right arsehole.
Maja leaving was their down fall.
I'll Hazard a guess

I didn't see grabban like that, he played well but could see the ship was sinking.lassassinblanc wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 9:07 pmRewatched 1st season of till I die, to refresh the memory.

Re: Mackems
True of course in Grabban but didn't show múch loyalty.
If course with the Maja think you can't blame the player Donald even said it they should have secured his contract before it escalated.
I know a staff member from the show and they've told me before that they'd have Bain back in a heartbeat and he was hated by the staff.
He probably does mean we'll but comes across as an a prick.
Let's put it this way if the director of My club asked me to go get him a beer I'd tell him to get it himself... Actually he'd know not to ask me as it ain't my job to be his waiter

I liked Coleman.
On episode 3 of new series so far - in the first episode you see someone has spray painted NUFC on the bricks of the SoS
I don't like their director Charlie Methven, comes across as an absolute gimp.
I like Luke O'Nien, comes across as a nice, genuine lad.

Re: Mackems
I really enjoyed the second series. I was hooked and watched it all in one night. Charlie Methven is an insufferable prick and a bully. Unfortunately there are a lot of blokes at his level who think that is how you lead people; aggressiveness and public humiliation. Luke O'Nien seems like a really good lad.
I'm so glad Newcastle have never done anything like this. I reckon we are probably exactly the same behind the scenes.

Agree Luke O'Nien just comes across as a lad who always expected to be playing in League 2 or the conference and is delighted to be playing for a big (I use the tentatively) club like Sunderland.
Watched up until Episode 4 last night, Will Grigg really was the definition of panic buy
I'll Hazard a guess
Re: Mackems
I've watched the first 5 episodes of the second season. Half of it is like watching an episode of The Office. Luke O'Nien comes across as a really sound lad, Maja came across as someone who was uncomfortable in front of cameras and just wanted to play football.

Re: Mackems
I've only seen three but I agree on Maja. Like he's not gonna discuss the contract because he will get stick and it may hinder it. Its his job and he was offered a huge payrise. I'm ok with people taking that as long as they continue to work professionally up to leaving

- Martin Bain is doing an impossible job under pretty terrible conditions. I'm shocked he held it together during interviews throughout filming that show. Not saying he was ever going to be good at the job, but I would have expected him to be more of a prick given how it all went down.
- Jack Rodwell: s**** footballer, but I don't blame players for not giving up their own contracts. Sunderland were idiots for giving him the contract in the first place, but why should players walk away from their contracts if the team decides the don't want to play them. It's not as if a club is going to go on paying you out of the goodness of their hearts when your contract ends and nobody wants you - so why owe it in return. This only applies though if the player wants to play, if they're holding out - eff 'em.
- Grabban was on loan and didn't owe them anything. Clubs and supporters want undying loyalty from players, but don't give it in return. Had he been a permanent Sunderland player I'd have said he owed them to finish out the season, but a player in his circumstances needs to look out for his own short career and at least he played well while there.
- Agree regarding both managers. Can't expect managers to overachieve when they only have a couple months to work with deflated players who were never assembled with a system in mind. It's unreasonable how fast managers are expected to get the most out of a side but given no time or influence to do it.
As for Ellis, clearly a disaster for the last couple years. But by the same token, I understand why he stopped pumping money into the club. He trusted inept people to spend hundreds of millions of pounds on players, took a loss on almost all of them, and in the end lost his shirt on the club. He should have gotten out a lot sooner so they weren't in the s*** like they were, but I get why he put his pocket book away by the end.

Maja also came across as someone who knew exactly what was going on and was uncomfortable lying about it.

OK just seen the boxing day episode. What a tool. Ranting and raving and swearing at the marketing lady over an attendance figure. Get some perspective man
