Match day thread - NUFC vs Wolves

Sunday the 27th October sees Wolves travel to SJP for a 2pm televised kick off on Sky Sports.

To say that we’re in the clarts when it comes to scoring is an understatement given that we’re on track for the worst scoring performance in the first 10 games since the club was founded but playing Wolves might bode well given we’ve a decent history of scoring against them; albeit rarely securing the three points along the way with 2 wins in the last 10 attempts.

Schar, Carroll and Hayden are certainly not in the squad whilst Lejune and Ritchie were involved in training this week but not expected to feature.

Personally, I’m confident of getting the three points in this game given that we’re now facing a long run of winnable matches before the festive period (if you discount the Man City match end of November) so Bruce should have been able to instill some attacking intent amongst the squad and hopefully we’ll be able to get at the opposition a little bit more but we still need to take our chances.

Draw at best. They’ll score, we won’t score more than once (if we’re lucky).

2-0 win (Joelinton and Almiron) you heard it here first, and probably last

Our scoring has been beyond shocking, I'm hoping to see a more adventurous performance here.

Did I miss Schar and Carroll getting injured?

Going to this one and hopeful that we'll get a result.

2-1 Toon (Almiron - he must score surely - & S Longstaff)

Really hoping for some sibling rivalry to improve the squad!

Wily Boly out of the game - sustained a suspected fractured ankle in training.

Don't know whether this will help us.

So hungover. We'll lose to compound it.

He's Wolves best centre half so it can only be a bonus. That said against Joelinton a traffic cone would be an adequate deputy for Boly.

Will Bruce shake up the attack or just hope the front three get some form eventually

ASM has only played two 'full' games (late sub in both) and one of them was Chelsea, it's still a pretty fresh front three anyway. If I was to make a change it's Gayle in, but I'd rather play him with Joelinton than instead, at which point it's a massive formation shift. I'd give these three a chance, ASM has been the bright spark of the last two games and the other two need confidence. Plus the alternatives aren't much to write home about.

I'd go with a fron 3 of Almiron, Gayle & ASM today.

Joelinton has had enough chances now. 1 goal in 9 is not good enough. That's an average of just over 4 per season which is abysmal. Gayle got 6 league goals for us in his full Premier League season which is still nowhere near good enough but a better return than Joelinton is on course for.

Almiron has to start doing something as well. He's got to be close to losing his place to Atsu. On recent evidence ASM is the only member of the front 3 who looks good enough.

When you say "chances" you're referring to games rather than chances though. He's making the right runs and often not getting picked out, and while he's had maybe two headers he should have done better with he's barely had a sniff in most of those games. We have a bad habit as a club of blaming strikers for a lack of goals whilst creating absolutely nothing for them (see also Tomasson, Dr Hong (L)).

Not expecting a lot of goals. 0-0 or 1-0 either way. I'll go 0-0 bore-draw.
