Re: Toon Takeover Thread
My understanding is that the implication would be Ashley would no longer be involved with NUFC, so that wouldn't need to be audited. I'm not too sure on that though. Saw an interesting write up in the Guardian that claims it's nearing completion and they have been in talks for months.

It would be the most un-newcastle like thing if after all these takeover rumours the one that went through was the richest buyers so far.

Were the other takeover links to be reported in things like the FT and WSJ?

I keep telling myself not to, but I'm getting excited. The papers that reported it originally definitely lend it a bit more weight.

Yeah can't wait until the club I've supported more than 50 years becomes a propaganda tool in a public relations exercise for a family of evil despots. But hey transfer funds and all that. Worth so much more than being able to be proud of the club you support.
Re: Toon Takeover Thread
Same (apart from the 50 years...). Genuinely worried about this and if it goes through I'll have a really big decision to make on the season ticket I've had for 16 years. Would be nice for the fit and proper persons test to be fit for purpose for once.Donkey Toon wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2020 9:28 pmYeah can't wait until the club I've supported more than 50 years becomes a propaganda tool in a public relations exercise for a family of evil despots. I'm worried too because I know that the strength of my feelings on the issue mean there is no decision for me to make. I will not put anything into the club under that ownership … full stop. Because I would see it as helping to reduce the financial burden of the public relations exercise for a regime I think is utterly corrupt and evil. But at the same time you cannot turn off support in an instant when you have done it so long. It would be really hard. But talk is cheap for me Colly because I don't get to go to games like you. I don't envy you your decision.Colly wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2020 9:31 pmSame (apart from the 50 years...). Like you I hope the FA does its job for once … but at the same time am realistic enough to doubt that it will. But fingers crossed if it comes to that.

Not gonna happen. Nowt to see here. Move along.
It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

I am with you on this. It's one thing having the owner in charge that we have to suffer now, but to actively promote and represent a bunch of individuals with those views is another. The media would lap it up (which is exactly what they would want) but there would be zero joy in anything achieved for me.Donkey Toon wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2020 9:28 pmYeah can't wait until the club I've supported more than 50 years becomes a propaganda tool in a public relations exercise for a family of evil despots. Saying that, I also agree with Chappy in so much that it probably won't happen anyway.
There is no sin except stupidity.
Re: Toon Takeover Thread
I don't put money into the club as it stands under Ashley (but do take spare tickets if I'm in town), and obviously wouldn't if that wretched regime took control.
I don't live near Newcastle any more, so I can't just switch support to a local lower league option in any meaningful way.
Feels like a monkey's paw scenario in that by getting my wish of freedom from Ashley could come at the cost of losing the club altogether.

Totally agree. I've been waiting all this time for us to win a trophy, but would get zero joy from winning one off the back of their ill-gained money. Would render the entire point of the club's existence and purpose of trying to win trophies pointless to me.Crouching Shola Hidden Talent wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2020 10:15 pmI am with you on this. I'm an atheist who is almost willing to pray for the first time in his life that you and chappy are correct.
