Re: Toon Takeover Thread - PIF Pull Out
Concerned by reports Ashley is said to be distraught. He's pretty s*** but we don't need him losing all hope and being even shitter. There was allegedly money around in January and there's no doubt the squad needs investing in over this Summer window.

The athletic interviewed Staveley. Said the PL demanded the Saudi government have a seat on the nufc board, but PIF couldn't let that happen. How odd.
They were saying ‘you know what, we won’t reject you but we won’t approve you either, so we’ll just sit here for month after month'

Imagine if some of these people put the same energy into lobbying our actual government for investment into the local community.

I miss when the EU used to invest in the North.

That first point is a weird spot. That I think reflects how the Saudi government sets up things like the PIF and everything else to make them seem arms length and distance themselves from accountability, but let's be real, nothing happens there or in the name of the the KSA without government approval or direction. Should the PL have muddied things by making requests like that? Probably not, but they were likely also thinking don't piss in our face and tell us it's raining.Colback's Orange Tufts wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2020 12:08 pmThe athletic interviewed Staveley. Re: Toon Takeover Thread - PIF Pull Out
An interesting take I've read is that our fans (and by that I mean the vocal majority on Twitter) were seemingly more interested in saying "we're f***ing richer than anyone else" rather than getting Ashley out of the club and replaced by decent, stable ownership. That is totally the impression I'm getting from a lot of people. We could have had a consortium led by Isis bidding for us and people would have been downplaying their actions and making excuses for them if the sums were big enough. "It's not our country so it doesn't matter", "keep politics out of football" etc.

Those fans on Twitter are probably the same pissed teens that turn up at our away games trying to act hard but in reality they can't handle 2 cans of Carling.biggeordiedave wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2020 2:27 pmAn interesting take I've read is that our fans (and by that I mean the vocal majority on Twitter) were seemingly more interested in saying "we're f***ing richer than anyone else" rather than getting Ashley out of the club and replaced by decent, stable ownership. The overwhelming majority I’ve seen is people just happy we were to have new owners.

As someone who wanted the takeover it's been pretty annoying having other people tell me why I wanted the takeover to go through.

Coincidence, it's been annoying having other people tell me I'm not a fan for having reservations about the takeover going through.Don Sholeone wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2020 4:46 pmAs someone who wanted the takeover it's been pretty annoying having other people tell me why I wanted the takeover to go through.
Which I don't say to imply either of us are wrong, but is to highlight why with a contentious change like this, fans should have been more respectful of each others' differing opinions. But is part of why I never wanted the drama and challenges that would come with their ownership - because it was always going to be a talking point, and it was going to be so divisive for supporters.
