Contracts
Re: Contracts
I think Ritchie and Shelvey signing new deals is a good thing, especially Ritchie.
Longstaffs need sorting though - as well as Schar, Hayden and some others whose contracts expire in 2021.

Didn't Sean Longstaff sign a new deal last year?

Re: Contracts
I don't see an issue with both getting extensions.
Shelvey on his day can change a game, obviously needs to do it more but he's an important player and from what I've heard a good strong voice in the dressing room (surprise surprise). I do think the playmaker role will be one we shall be looking at come the summer but I feel he's capable first team/squad/backup player for us.
Same goes for Ritchie, the lad is worker and a leader within the squad, capable in a few positions too so a no brainer.
Matty I've heard wants to stay and is in talks so something should be expected soon on that front. Sean isn't a major issue either he has a contact until 2023 I believe signed last year.
Fernandez supposedly has an option to extend for another year too, I think he falls into the category of again good squad player/backup if we could bring in someone younger with a good level of experience he maybe wouldn't be too much of a loss. I'd rate him as our 4th best cb behind Schar,Lascelles and Lejuene.

Definitely think we should extend Fernandez's contract if there's the option

Re: Contracts
Within minutes of coming on he was pointing and letting players run past him - Shelvey is a liability.

Re: Contracts
Yes I do think so too, as he is a good player. but I'd say the club may be thinking of other options too given his age, if for example Bournemouth and Villa were relegated and someone like Ake or Mings became available (not saying we'd be have a chance of signing them) but they'd be an upgrade

Re: Contracts
I'd consider him a backup player tbf, so I don't see us doing picking up a big money replacement. And as a backup option; free and proven ticks all the boxes.lassassinblanc wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2020 2:23 pmYes I do think so too, as he is a good player. but I'd say the club may be thinking of other options too given his age, if for example Bournemouth and Villa were relegated and someone like Ake or Mings became available (not saying we'd be have a chance of signing them) but they'd be an upgrade
Re: Contracts
I wouldn't have extended Shelveys deal if it meant him paying us. Nowhere near good enough.
Happy with Ritchie as a squad player.
Wouldn't go near Fernandez with an extension.
Matty needs sorting ASAP.

Re: Contracts
Almost had me with that
As for Fernandez, he’s my fifth choice CB but as fifth choice CBS go he’s a bloody good one!
Re: Contracts
Fernandez isn't bad and he was playing alright a month ago. Been poor recently though and should have dropped out for Lejeune or Schar but hasn't. Clark has been our best CB this season bizarrely, also got Lascelles and then Dummett can cover LB and CB. 6 CB options is too many if we're using a back 4. If we're desperate we've also got Hayden that can play there.

Sensible option.

Re: Contracts
No brainer even if there wasn't the clause he deserved a new deal. I'd love to see him and Lejeune as our main cb pairing.
