Manquillo has been our best RB this season. I'd much rather have him in the side than Yedlin or Krafth.

Presumably Carroll will be on the same pay as you play contract as he is now so I'd have no issue with him extending that.

Manquillo signing a proper extension is a great move. He's comfortably our best RB so it would be madness to let him leave for free. Carroll is a good move on a similar deal to his current one. Wouldn't mind him doing one year deals here until he retires.

Hopefully he'll score a goal sooner rather than later. Though wish his first goal back would have been in front of fans, because I think it'll be a special moment for him.

For sure, there will always be a percentage of players who don't actually like football and it's just a job (fair enough). But most to get to that level are super competitive and love the game, and likely take it really hard to be sidelined the way he has (especially for his local club).

And the fact players like him don't choose to have their salary slashed to play elsewhere doesn't undermine that for me. As other players who don't have their contract renewed will show, teams won't keep paying you out of the goodness of their heart, so why should players give up money clubs were foolish enough to award them.

I never quite got with Colback why we didn’t let him go on a free, and if a championship team gave him say £20k a week we’d just top up the other £20k a week for the remainder of what he had on his contract. It’s better to lose £20k a week for a year or two than to lose £40k a week.
