Match thread - NUFC v Citeh - FA cup QF
Manchester City (h)
This Sunday (28th) sees the little matter of an FA Cup Quarter Final tie for Steve Bruce's side, as they host current holders Manchester City.
It's a 6.30pm kick-off behind closed doors at SJP and live coverage is on BBC1.
NUFC have produced a free digital match programme which is available here
The Semi-Final draw will be staged at SJP during the half time interval and Alan Shearer will draw the balls.
Ties must reach a conclusion on the day, via extra time and/or penalties.
As is the case in the Premier League at present, nine substitutes can be selected with five able to be used. Should the tie proceed to extra time, then a sixth replacement is permitted.
City have won just one of their last four visits to SJP, drawing 2-2 last November and losing 2-1 in January 2019.
Pep Guardiola's side were 1-0 winners on Tyneside in December 2017, while it finished 1-1 in April 2016 - the visitors managed by Manuel Pellegrini that day.

Coral rate a home victory at 12/1 (17/2 for Newcastle to qualify), with a draw after 90 minutes 6/1. City are 2/11 to win and 1/14 to qualify.
0-0 at HT, City win to nil at FT 4/1
NUFC: Nabil Bentaleb serves a one game suspension for this tie following bookings against Oxford United and West Bromwich Albion.
There are doubts over both Isaac Hayden and Matt Ritchie after they came off due to injury on Wednesday. It's also reported that Jonjo Shelvey faces a fitness test.
Florian Lejeune and Ciaran Clark remain out, but both Sean and Matty Longstaff could be recalled to the squad, amid claims that Fabian Schar could be deployed in a midfield role.
Newcastle's route to this round:
R3: Rochdale (a) drew 1-1
R3R: Rochdale (h) won 4-1
R4: Oxford United (h) drew 0-0
R4R: Oxford United (a) won 3-2
R5: West Bromwich Albion (a) won 3-2
MCFC: Sergio Aguero won't get the chance to boost his goalscoring total against us after undergoing surgery for a knee injury on Wednesday.
There are doubts over the fitness of Phil Foden, Joao Cancelo, John Stones, Claudio Bravo and Eric Garcia.
Pep Guardiola's side lost 1-2 at Chelsea in the Premier League on Thursday evening to confirm Liverpool as title winners.
Fernandinho was dismissed in that game, which means he's suspended for Sunday.
Their route to this round was as follows:
R3: Port Vale (h) won 4-1
R4: Fulham (h) won 4-0
R5: Sheffield Wednesday (a) won 1-0
Referee: Lee Mason - fourth appointment this season involving Newcastle and we've lost the previous three (0-2 away at Villa, 1-2 at home to Everton and 0-4 away at Arsenal).
VAR: Andre Marriner

This will not go well.
Re: Match thread - NUFC v Citeh - FA cup QF
11/1 from Ladbrokes, pretty much what I got for that league win last season...
Re: Match thread - NUFC v Citeh - FA cup QF
I reckon we'll somehow find a way to win today. It would be peak Newcastle to get to Wembley when fans can't attend. Also 2020 in general has been mental enough that this isn't out of the question.
It's ridiculous how long it has been since we were last in an FA Cup quarter final. Shearer was still playing for us and I was only 12!
In Ashley's 13 year in charge, this is the only season we've made it past the 4th round. That stat is probably an apt summary of his reign in general. Awful.

For some reason I thought it was an earlier kick off. Anyways we are going to get bent over and bummed to death in this one. Now the league has officially gone they will start playing to their normal standard and will want to win the cup.

Re: Match thread - NUFC v Citeh - FA cup QF
Normality has resumed.
3-0 to city, two first half goals, then an early one in the second half. They make it a passing exposition for the final 25 minutes.

Bit of a shame that if we do somehow get to the SF the other teams are Man U, Arsenal and either Chelsea or Leicester - tho maybe this is the year we can be the Wigan type underdog to upset the odds
