Just seen Ibe left Bournemouth, Howe spent £15m on him and £25m on Solanke!

I like Bournemouth and I think Eddie Howe is a good manager but serious questions needs to be asked about that. 1 goal in 27 appearances for Liverpool for Solanke, dodgier business than Joelinton.

Agreed, he’s done a good job keeping them in the PL for 5 years. He has been backed financially in that time, they spend far more than the likes of Palace and Burnley but some transfers have been absolute shockers.

Absolutely. They took the Sunderland approach to paying too much for the top clubs' castoffs - except they were snapping up youth that never made it, rather than veterans that were past it.

They may also wish they'd sold on Ake when he was in demand, because he's seemingly taken a big step back this season.

I’d love to see Southgate at Spurs, he’ll be awful.

Howe is too tactically naive for the England job I think. Done great to keep Bournemouth up all these years but even before this season they’re so hit and miss, they’d either win 3-0 or lose 3-0...there rarely seemed to be an inbetween.

I don't think tactical naivety is reason enough not to give someone the job. He is still a media darling despite his obvious failures this season and is generally thought of as a brilliant manager. It's not necessarily what I want, but I think he'd be a good fit for England manager.

I don't think tactical naivety is reason enough not to give someone the job. He is still a media darling despite his obvious failures this season and is generally thought of as a brilliant manager. It's not necessarily what I want, but I think he'd be a good fit for England manager.

Rightly or wrongly though, I can see people saying they need a manager to "has experience managing the egos of top players", which Southgate avoided because he'd coached them at the younger level(s). Which isn't me defending that justification, just that it's a common trope thrown out by pundits when the time for a new national team manager rolls around.
