The not so Big Injury Thread 7/7/20

While not as large as chronic injury period we had during winter, where we had 16 injuries, most to first team players. The pause helped those come back and we had an almost fully fit squad. There was a few caveats to this. Jack Colback wasn't a listed player, but still counted towards the tally, Ki was relased and Jetro was a loan player who returned to his parent club .

A number of reasons were avilable as to why we had so many injuries over the Christmas period. The games were coming in thick and fast and the squad was not rotated enough, this saw Lejuene rush back into playing full games, which of course, aggrivated his injury. A number of injuries also happened during training which lead to questions being asked just what was going on, and finally injury prone players picking up strains and knocks, Carroll and Lascelles respectfully.

However, the league must go on and deadlines must be met, this has seen games happening with very few days of rest betweem them. While it has been a rather lethargic start, most teams seem to be handling it well. But, once again, we find ourselves leading the injury table with 8 injuries! We had a head start over the break period with Clark and Lejuene ruled out for the rest of the season.

Clark had an operation on his ankle, while the latter, picked up a nasty thigh injury against Hull City in a warm up friendly.

Sean Longstaff and Isaac Hayden have been ruled out due to thigh injuries for up to 2-3 weeks.

Partners in physio, Carroll and Lascelles, have also been ruled out. Caroll with a tight groin, while Lascelles tore a ligament in his ankle.

Finally we have Saint-Maximin and Almirion. Saint-Maximin was forced off early following the 2-2 draw with West Ham knock to his ankle. There doesn't seem to be anything overly dubious with his injury with perhaps rest being the best medicine. The same can be said for Almirion who also picked up a thigh injury. With the midweek game being against City, it is highly likely that both will be left out of the match day squad, as there is nothing to be played for as we are safe.

It would also be an oppertunity for Lazaro to come into the playing fold. Of course, going up against a Man City that just lost, isn't the ideal situation, but it is a start for the player who is reportedly frustrated with his lack of playing time since the lock down was lifted. Who knows, the Austrain has proven himself to have a rocket of a shot, and as was shown by Southhampton where a gap does open between the City defense and midfield, perhaps this is something that will be exploited.
