Big Inter-Forum PREMIER Positions Game 2016-17

Post by daib0 » Sun Jul 24, 2016 12:58 pm

The big Inter-Forum PREMIER Positions Game 2016-17

The game is already well established, lots of seasons running now. The Sunderland ‘Black Cat Chat’ forum (and admin Hakuna Matata to be precise) does the real hard mathematical work all during the season, whilst I’m from the Reading’s Royals Rendezvous forum and do more the ‘public relations’ type stuff as most of you already know. We are both going to be your points of reference for all this coming season.

Old hands know this well. But for newcomers, what is this game? It’s dead easy! You simply guess ONCE (now!) what you think will be the final league positions for the Premier League 2016-17 (that means placing all teams, in order from 1st to 20th), leave them on this thread, and then sit back and enjoy! Nothing more!!

Please note that this season we are reverting back to making it an INDIVIDUAL PLAYER event, there was a clamour for that, as well as also later a forum average if you have the minimum entries needed. For that we’ve had to reduce the number of participating forums to about a dozen, because if we kept with the nearly forty fan forums last season it would become a full-time job! This game will initially take you just a couple of minutes, and then enjoy without having to make updates at all, all season. Right, below are the current 20 Premier teams in alphabetical order – BEST IDEA is simply copy these onto your PC and re-arrange them in your finishing order come the end of the 2016-17 season. The Sunderland computer handles them in an alphabetical order initially so please help us with accurate spelling as laid out below …

Arsenal
Bournemouth
Burnley
Chelsea
Crystal Palace
Everton
Hull
Leicester
Liverpool
Man City
Man Utd
Middlesbrough
Southampton
Stoke
Sunderland
Swansea
Tottenham
Watford
West Brom
West Ham

We need to keep this order alphabetical or it’s a huge edit job, so specifically no ‘Gunners’, ‘Villa’, ‘Spurs’, ‘Hammers’, ‘Palace’, etc. or we might not accept it if it’s too much unraveling work. Bournemouth comes for us under ‘B’, so try to avoid ‘AFC’ Bournemouth! Best is always simply COPY and RE-ARRANGE these on your PC!

Next …
According to your choices you will score points, and better still, very few, points. And how do you “sparingly” score those points?

Scoring is as follows:

For each team you score one point for each place away from its predicted position. Example - if you predict Sunderland to finish 9th and they finish 9th, you score 0 points (now that’s really excellent predicting). If they finish 13th you score 4 points or if they finish 7th you score 2 points. Therefore, the nearer you get to the exact position and have less points mounting up the better.

I will endeavour to make updates at the beginning of every month during the season out of interest, and occasionally fortnightly, but all leaderboards during the season are given for interest. The big winners are the forums at the end of the season who have LEAST points in total including every premier league team after the final game has been played.

The table positions won’t change position so much in the later stages of the season so … how can we maintain interest to the end you might be thinking?! Well, we have MONTHLY rewards for those in the top positions! That means points rewards for the highest positions at the end of every month (calculating from the REAL table on the 30th/31st - except when part-way through a weekend programme in which case we will wait to a maximum of Monday night for completed weekend programme to calculate progress reports). This worked pretty good last season.

Here's the idea of the bonuses:
1st spot - take off 3 bonus points from score, so your score dips even lower
2nd - take off 2 bonus points
3rd - take off 1 bonus point
The good thing is that the Bonus Points are for the most successful and includes tied points so there may well be more than 3 players involved. Their scores for the deduction will be based on their (true) teams' score, not taking any previous deductions into account - although you do of course keep these all season so lowering your OVERALL total.

I will give you an entire listing of every participant in order all through the season, plus a separate ranking of just those on your forum.

EXTRA FUN! - A SEPARATE BUT RELATED GAME - FORUM AVERAGE ENTRY COMPETITION … where forums have an entry of a minimum of five people we will make a ‘board average’, thus you’ll be able to see how your forum copes against many of the others across the land**. It is set against a single initial average entry taken from your forum guesses, and this average will be the forum entry so MAY VARY from your general looking individual entries. Five different member entries as a minimum is the requirement (no maximum!), this so as to avoid ‘fluke’ results which might distort the good guess-work averaged out by forums with larger numbers. These updates will be made in the middle or just after middle, or every month.

IMPORTANT
ENTRIES IN BY [EDIT] FRIDAY 12TH AUGUST 2016 – late entries cannot be accepted, no undue advantages offered once we have an idea of the real table, even to old trusted friends. It might also put our forum average well off. Once the first matches have kicked off … that’s it!

Have fun … it will be worth that little bit of effort - promised

Entries like this, MINE invented just as an example, so put your own order of teams of course!

1 Manchester city
2 Tottenham Hotspur
3 Leicester City
4 Liverpool
5 Arsenal
6 Manchester United
7 Chelsea
8 West Ham United
9 Crystal Palace
10 Everton
11 Watford

13 Southampton
14 Middlesbrough
15 Sunderland

And an important reminder once again - we need just a minimum of FIVE entries each forum to constitute a forum average entry!!

I may have accidentally deleted Watford on this first attempt. Also, I've went bold, City's squad too old for Pep's game

Actually no problem with anyone editing before kick-off either, just try and mention it to me though (on here or by PM) or I might be lost ...

Really hard to call this year; I'd say any one of six teams could realistically win the league. Other than Hull (who are dead in the water with their owners) I think that there's 7 or 8 teams who could easily drop.

Yeah, the bottom 8 could probably finish in any order next season and it wouldn't surprised me. May have put Sunderland a little low on reflection tho. Could see them above Bournemouth and / or West Brom depending who Moyes signs. I may ammendment it but I'll let you know if I do <ok>

I think Middlesbrough will surprise a few people. They've got a very good manager and they've made some very good signings. I can see the being one of the surprise packages of the season.

I got pulled up on dates.... bah, I'm a dope, got confused with the other game I'm trying to do.
Should read: "entries in day before kick-off which is actually Saturday 13th August - so entries in by the night of Friday 12th August"

Will probably take all entries up to the KO of the very first match on the Saturday - Hull v Leicester at 12.30 - but I'd MUCH prefer them in the day before so as not to give the Sunderland Admin man too much stress last second!!

Now nearly 60 entries received in all!

A favour to be asked, coming up …I thought that, as there is no entrance monies involved in our inter-forum games (!!)I might ask you to lend a mini helping hand my end. Don't worry, for no money to change hands ...

J.S. BACH - Brandenburg Concerto No. 3

“One Man Cello Orchestra”

I’ve just put this up ….

It’s for 10 cellos, I played all in turn, and it’s quite complicated.

If you were able to give possibly give this an “I Like” click and a re-mention on any social network then I’d be enormously grateful.

Actually, there’s a future video of this, recorded but not mounted yet …
