To be fair the last time I heard the Leonard Cohen version was when I watched Watchmen a few years ago and now it'll forever be mentally linked with two superheroes having cheesy sex in a flying owl ship

Do different versions of jazz standards count as covers?
Re: Covers
didn't mind all 3 versions and as you mentioned it for me the Hendrix version is probably the best cover.Out of those 3 though gotta say the original is the best with a score ofMissingTheLeazesEnd wrote:Original:
Good cover, can't find better audio on one that isn't a pointless mix :
Bad cover:
Hendrix did it canny live as well

Skalps, thanks for posting that. Not a massive Radiohead fan, like a few tracks, but the rest leave me cold but I like that.
Secret, that is a great cover. So different from the original but really fun.

Re: Covers
Yes in the technical sense - they're different versions of original pieces by different artists, but in the sense of the tradition of the popular song cover, then no .The Secret Ingredient wrote:do you think it doesskalpel wrote:Do different versions of jazz standards count as covers?

Yeah, it has to be doesn't it? And the only reason I gave the original any stars is because it popularised the song at the time, which led to Coltrane hearing it and doing his version.
