I'd say this is almost exactly why people like it. It's unchallenging and familiar with easily identifiable characters. Sometimes it's nice to just have a show that's an easy watch. It's essentially like the generic pop music of TV.skalpel wrote:Friends just lifted predictable and play-it-safe jokes from similar programs of the past, Cheers for example. Yep. And it's a disgrace that demand for such has led to so much of this 'easy culture' that the popular arts industries now muscle out any innovative works that could both interest and challenge a discerning audience.Livin' Davide Loca wrote:I'd say this is almost exactly why people like it. Luther or Mad Men?Cal wrote:Mifune wrote:

Anyway, I was not meaning that every single American TV show is better than all British TV shows, or that there are no good British TV shows. I meant generally.
Re: Tv shows everyone seems to like but you dont...
Mad Men, which is now being obtained. Yeah US TV is generally better for long running dramas (and food shows), other categories I would say UK TV tends to be better at, especially comedies and documentaries. I just wanted to post Luther because Luther. I wish the BBC would commission more episodes of Luther and Sherlock per series, not to the American standard of 20-24 x 40 minute episodes, but more than 4-6 hours.
Re: Tv shows everyone seems to like but you dont...
. Agree about America being better from dramas and UK being better at documentaries (mostly thanks to Attenborough). But I don't agree about UK being better at comedies than America. I generally can't think of one single running UK comedy that I like apart from The Thick of It , while America has Community, HIMYM, Futurama, American Dad. BBC cut anything that is good .Cal wrote:Mad Men, which is now being obtained. Only Futurama on that list is half decent, in my opinionMifune wrote:While America has Community, HIMYM, Futurama, American Dad. BBC cut anything that is good .

People not liking Community, Peep Show or the IT Crowd all within the same page?!
Re: Tv shows everyone seems to like but you dont...
I've never seen Community but I hear good things about it, but British T.V is better than American T.V for the most part.

Mighty Boosh is/was absolutely awful. Worst "comedy" I think I have ever seen!Livin' Davide Loca wrote:IT Crowd

Noel Fielding's show by himself was far, far worse. Also, Citizen Khan...Nobbys Trumpet wrote:Mighty Boosh is/was absolutely awful. Worst "comedy" I think I have ever seen!Livin' Davide Loca wrote:IT Crowd
