The TF Film Club 16/3-22/3/13

Post by Speedo » Mon Mar 18, 2013 11:39 pm

Film for the week beginning 19th March:

Paul

Pre-amble:
Alright lads, I was wondering if any of you might fancy doing a regular film watch/discussion? Since most films are available online (either through Lovefilm/Netflix or something less legitimate), it might be cool if we watched a pre-decided film a week to broaden our cinema horizons and generally just be film-buffs together.

Let me know who fancies it.

I'd be up for this seeing as I need to broaden my film knowledge a bit. Just don't ask for any suggestions from me

Good idea.

Maybe to have broad appeal have alternating 'pretentious' and 'accessible' weeks.

That is harsh. I was just expecting fines or donations to charity or something.

I'm thinking every weekend somebody picks a film and we all have to watch it (and, should you choose to, discuss it) before the end of the week. The only restriction is no intentionally s*** films. If you want to go and watch Ozombie (tagline: 'Bin Laden will die again'. This is a genuine film.) that's up to you, but no forcing that s*** on the rest of us. I might but a poll on for each film, 1 star to 5 star, to get an idea of what everybody thinks. I'll update the OP with the week's film.

As a test run, the first film is Paul, the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost film (which I watched yesterday). Let me know what you all think, is it as good as Hot Fuzz/Shaun of the Dead?

I'm a great fan of Pegg and Frost, and, while it's not in the same league as those two films, I do think it's a good film. There isn't a character I dislike, I found the story entertaining, if daft.

Cool, sounds good. Is there some sort of order for who picks the films each week or just any suggestions welcome sort of thing?

Well how about everybody who wants to nominate a film PM me (you don't need to include the film). We can have a different person each week, and when we run out of people we'll start again. The order will be just the order people PM me.

Gave it a 4. Not as good as Shaun Of The Dead or Hot Fuzz but still a well made and at times hilarious film.
