- Nature’s Great Events: (6 episodes; 'The Great Flood', about the Okavango is one of my favourites)*
- The great rift: Africa's wild heart (3 episodes) *
- Yellowstone (2 parter) *
- South Pacific is good as well (not Attenborough)
- Secret universe, the hidden life of the cell (1 episode). i like this one because its essentially what i did my degree on, also it's pretty cutting edge as documentaries go. (pretty sure its not attenborough)

*might be attenborough

The Death of Yugoslavia (six episodes split up into 10 minute videos on youtube, lasts nearly 5 hours in total).

Brilliantly detailed and informative insight into the breakup of Yugoslavia and the conflicts that followed. If you're interested in this period at all then I would definitely give it the first few videos a try because I couldn't recommend this enough <ok>.

It seems to be available on Book Depository for £35. Expensive, but worth it I think. There's just so much information in there, I doubt I'll ever finish the whole thing.

Unavailable in hardback, and that is the type of book I would like in hardback :(.

I will just have to keep browsing this tumblr page while making up my own history until it gets available <diva> <grim>.

Just watched The Thin Blue Line, a 1988 documentary about a guy falsely convicted of murdering a policeman. The film was actually subsequently used as evidence in his exoneration. Pretty well made film, and has music is by Philip Glass (a rearrangement of his Metamorphoses piano pieces).

<laugh> Yeah I imagine so. I've not seen Dear Zachary but know what it's about, people have told me it's meant to be one of the most depressing documentary films there is.

Because it followed a murder trial, The Thin Blue Line reminded me a bit of The Staircase (Soupçons), which is one of the most gripping documentary series I've ever watched (by Oscar winning documentarian Jean-Xavier de Lestrade). It followed the court case of a guy accused of murdering his wife - he claims she fell down the stairs - and as more sides to the case unravel you get a fly on the wall view of the everybody in the defence and prosecution at work in and out of court. Some of the stuff that happens is so damn cliffhanging that Hollywood couldn't have written it.

The final episode has the jury verdict and is one of the most suspenseful things I've seen in documentary before. If anybody watches it I highly recommend not reading anything about it or the case until after finishing, because it makes the end so much more gripping.

Anyone seen The Bridge? Chilling documentary with footage of people jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Friends and families of the jumpers being interviewed about these people's lives and what might have drove them to suicide.
