Anyone else seen it? All about Magic Johnson's career before and after he became HIV positive leading to his retirement. I've always known he has the disease but never really read that much about his career before and after his diagnosis. He went from superstar to pretty much a leper once he announced it to the world. It came at a time when HIV was big news, people were shunned and rejected if found to have the disease which carried a massive stigma due to its link with homosexuality.
It's a moving story, a real insight into how people were treated who carried the disease. There's a part in the film where he's talking to school children about it and there are some there who have it who talk about losing all of their friends because they were afraid of contracting the disease. Very sad.
Magic seems like a genuinely nice guy and his diagnosis did so much to help and raise awareness about the disease.
