It's just a shame that it'll be a non-violent death if he does actually die in the next episode. It would be nice to see Tony go all Law Abiding Citizen on his ass

What was the thing in the bag? Completely gone over my head . Also, unless I've completely missed something my money is on either the woman who runs the hotel or Mark. I said right at the beginning there's something fishy about him

Sobriety coin similar to the one that the hotel owner showed Tony a while back, apparently belonging to her husband who has been suspiciously absent for the present day parts. According to the credits the hotel owners and the mayor are related (or they both just happen to have the same surname).

I think he's suspiciously absent because he's dead.

A guess, but his wife said "that's what made Alain sick" or something. Some of the Radio Times readers' theories are pretty good though.
This stupid b**** has got it a bit wrong though...
The broken down car isn't f***ing random at all. It's the entire reason they're in Chalons du Bois. If they hadn't broken down, the whole series would have been about a happy family driving through France

Samuel Lewis was intrigued by the hotel owner Alain Deloix, Oliver's scarf, and a broken telly...
"His appearances have been sporadic; he isn't a suspect and the guilty one is always someone you've overlooked.
"Ollie's scarf was found at a charity shop after being handed in by a woman who found it in a house she bought, where it turns out Ollie was kept. However he wasn't wearing his scarf when he went missing which means it was taken and given to him by someone who had access to his hotel room: the hotel guy!!
"Some significance lies within the TV not working and having not worked for 8 years. I think it has a camera in it and its their way of watching children in rooms etc.
"The mayor is covering up, leaking info and having people killed – the guy at the station and the guy in prison – to stop it getting out as any connection to this kidnapping will ruin him!"

Eagle-eyed Stuart Burrill noted the recurring number plates. Production mishap, or a vital clue?
"In Episode 7 when the other child goes missing at the start (in 2009), there is a black Range Rover in the car park. The mayor drives a black Range Rover – he arrives at that car park whilst the forensics are being taken. The license plate of that Range Rover is "179 OL 97". At the end of Episode 7 when Tony returns to the hotel, there is a different car outside with the same license plate and the hotelier is smoking outside.
"No idea if it's coincidence or the BBC making a mistake."

"Alain's the red herring, too obvious with the shiftiness in episode 7. This all comes down to the mayor, Alain's brother. Who else could wield such influence as to have the guy killed in prison? Also, he was pretty keen in stating that he was pulling the plug on the investigation."

I reckon the guy Tony beat up a while back is involved. It's possible he's Oliver's real father and someone said that parents are the most likely to have committed the crime in these cases.

I still think there's something dodgy about Mark. Pretty sure he was the only person they told that they were going to see that guy in prison before he got stabbed

Kind of disappointing. Watching the entire season, only to discover the kid was murdered straight away and he only got to the empty house to string us along that he was abducted.

That was so f***ing awful, there is no way I'm watching season 2

Re: The Missing
At least it suggests a Series 2 of the same story is unlikely. Quite disappointed in the end really.

They f***ed that up. I wasn't expecting a happy ending, but knowing exactly what happened would have been nice.
