I see swimming as a necessary life skill to be honest. When I'm eventually in a fiery plane crash in the sea, I'd like to be able to calmly swim away from the burning wreckage rather than flap about like little dog and drown.

If your plane explodes into a ball of fire in the sea, I'm not sure you'll be able to do much more than calmly float away from the burning wreckage in five or six different directions.
