Cheers! Not sure to be honest, I might do a 10k next year instead because I honestly find running so boring sometimes but I'd definitely recommend doing it if you're interested.Sir Bobby wrote:Really well done! Looking back I was being naive saying 1:40/1:45.
I actually enjoyed the run a lot more than I thought I would, especially coming out of the Tyne Bridge when the Red Arrows flew past .
You gonna do it next year do you think?
My uncle's been doing it for 7 years now and he hits 1:40. I have no idea how he does it, he's 50 next month and I can't keep up with him for more than 4 miles
Well done Ramone!

Same to you! Yeah, I was a bit bored this year as well but nothing beats that feeling when you cross the finish lineI want soutzoukakia smyrneika too wrote:Cheers! Well done Ramone!
I did a couple of 10ks in preparation this year and they were a lot more fun. The Gateshead one in particular is good but the end is a killer.

Bump.
Not the GNR, but I want to get into running and build up to a half marathon.
Has anyone got a link to a decent training programme? There's so many online and they're a bit hit and miss. I go to the gym 5 times a week and have not a bad level of fitness. I'm not a fat cronut either. Did a bit of running last year, but only up to 5 miles.
I'm also after a watch that I can use to time my pace when running outside if anyone has any recommendations.

I didn't follow a training plan when I first did it. Just run the distances your comfortable with (I started doing 3 mile runs and very slowly built it up).Bodacious Benny wrote:Bump.

If you can run 10 miles relatively comfortably a couple of weeks before the start of the race you'll be fine.

Think my trouble will be keeping a set pace running outside.

Re: The Great North Run
Again just do what feels comfortable, take it easy with your first few runs and slowly ramp up the pace. You've got plenty of time to prepare so there's no point in rushing things.Bodacious Benny wrote:Think my trouble will be keeping a set pace running outside.

I intended to follow this prior to the GNR

Didn't stick to it at all really but it seems good. Obviously just start from whatever week is comfortable.

Did 4 miles after work. Kept it on a comfortable speed of 10 mins per mile to begin with. Could easily have gone on for a couple more miles but don't want to rush it. I'll do that another couple of times and then up the distance a bit.

Yeah intervals really help. I try to do a 40min session a week, sprinting every other minute
