Winter Olympics - 2014

Post by overseasTOON » Fri Feb 07, 2014 1:30 pm

Noticed that there is no thread on here about it.

I've always enjoyed the winter Olympics and for me it has provided many enjoyable moments such as the Jamaican bobsleigh team crashing out and breaking hearts of millions of supporters willing them to do well.

I can still picture the utterly gormless expression on Eddie The Eagles face and loving this plucky trier knowing he stood no chance what so ever but he didn't care.

I watched Bolero being performed and was on the edge of my seat and gave a standing ovation at the end.

I watched curling instead of going to bed.

I watched Super Powers draw battle lines on the ice and snow in event after event after event as the USA and the USSR tried to claim the title of best in the world.

The one event that still confuses me to this day though is the biathlon. Ski a bit, shoot a bit and repeat for hours and hours and hours and hours until the best Arctic sniper is left.

This year though we're seeing more inclusions of old X Game events and I'm looking forward to it.

The pictures emerging of the venue are disgraceful. Most expensive winter Olympics of all time and the majority has went to the back pocket of Putin's mates instead of actually going towards creating a successful event
I dunno

It really is the strangest host city for a Winter Olympics I can recall as it's basically a beach resort.

Anyway, I hope we have some close events and I'm looking forward to the luge, skeleton and bob sleigh coming up. This guy was lucky <laugh>

Always enjoyed the Winter Olympics, Winter sports are really cool. My mum comes from the mountainous region in Italy near the Austrian border and was regional ski champion. Shame I couldn't follow her steps: first time I skied I went straight into a tree and smashed my front teeth <grim>

I'll always remember standing in a queue for a ski lift at a resort in Colorado and overhearing one American say to his buddy: "And it was after I knocked myself out on a tree that I decided to start wearing a helmet".
I'm cycling 6 stages of the Tour de France in July 2018 to raise money for charity. If you'd like to sponsor me then please click the link in my user profile! Thank you!

In my defence I was only 4 at the time. I was so naive at the time and when the blood from my gum reached the snow, I was convinced for at least 3 months that snow was indeed red and not white. As a result I had a few embarrassing moments in kindergarten <grim>

Germany vs Russia is more interesting than the Spurs vs Everton game.
