Advertising it as a 'must have' as well. Hah.

Its not going to be cheap either is it?
Sony will pull in additional revenues from ancillary products such as the new controllers. One is never enough and a new controller is £55. Camera is £45.

The cost of being able to play a two player game is therefore already set at £400 as you need the extra controller and you haven't even bought the game yet.

MiniOT loves the PS Move so I'll need to cater for that and it's going to be a £500 price tag to start...
Someone likes the Move? Next you'll be saying you know someone with a wonderbook!

With the new ps4 controller's light bar can't you use it as a move now?

The game DVR and (some?) TV functions for Xbox One require a gold subscription. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/Live#features" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Microsoft backs off yet another controversial policy

The Xbox One will no longer need to be plugged in to the Kinect sensor to work, Microsoft has revealed.

This is the latest in a string of policy changes, including the announcement the new console would support self-publishing and not require a daily internet connection.

Microsoft's chief Xbox One platform architect Marc Whitten even mentioned one of these changes when breaking the news in response to consumer questions on IGN.

“Like online, the console will still function if Kinect isn’t plugged in, although you won’t be able to use any feature or experience that explicitly uses the sensor,” said Whitten.

“You have the ability to completely turn the sensor off in your settings. When in this mode, the sensor is not collecting any information. Any functionality that relies on voice, video, gesture or more won’t work. We still support using it for IR blasting in this mode.”

While some have praised Microsoft's commitment to motion control through the decision to ship Xbox One packaged with Kinect 2.0, the more vocal discussion has centered on the potential security issues posed by connecting a video camera to an always-on console.

Microsoft has decided to back off these contentious points, but Whitten was still adamant the Xbox One was a better system for its embedded Kinect functions.

“It makes gaming better in many ways,” he said, “from the ability to say 'Xbox On' and get right to your personalized homescreen, to the ability to control your TV through voice, Smartglass and more.”

It has been noted that the PlayStation 4 doesn't come with motion control, and that Microsoft might be able to drop its lowest offering price from $500 to the rival system's $400 if it sold a package without the Kinect.

For now though, Microsoft is sticking to its plan of making the Kinect an integral part of the living room experience, even if its console can now function without the device.

Why didn't Microsoft save a lot of money, and at E3 just have a man on a stage saying "We will wait for Sony to show their hand, then do exactly the same as them"

I wonder how many people who "switched" to Sony after E3 will now go back to Microsoft and get an Xbox One after all of this backtracking?

Not me.

Id prefer to go wih the company that thought of its customers in the first place, rather than a one that tried to piss on them and then realised theyd shot themselves in the foot far too much and are now desperately trying to claw people back. That doesnt really give me any faith in them for the future deicision making.

I'll stick with whichever one most of my mates get, for online gaming. Thats probably going to be the PS4. I dont know any people switching from PS3 to Xbone, but plenty the other way around.

Theres only a few games ill miss from xbox, but some of them i can get on my pc anyway. So meh!

Other than that, its just the Sky app ill be missing.

Speaking of launch, we’re now in a position to share that Xbox One will be available on Nov. 22, 2013 in all 13 of our initial launch markets – Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, UK, and USA. Many more markets will follow in 2014.
A week before PS4 here, a week after PS4 in the US.

Hmm, wonder if that will actually have any bearing on people buying different consoles, doubt it but being that close together it's be interesting to see numbers sold by end of 2013.
It's not about money... It's about sending a message.

Now that Xbox has back tracked over shared games and having to be online, should it re-enter my possibilities? I much prefer the 360 to the PS3....

I thought they were keeping the system in place but leaving it deactivated meaning they could reactivate it at any time?

As if Microsoft actually made a u-turn <laugh>
They are just postponing their plans until they feel safe enough to implement them.

Pretty much, in a few years, most if not all consoles will do what Microsoft wanted to this year.
