Until a number of his peers step forward and back up his claims then he is just an academic, probably poorly paid, who has just seen an opportunity to sell alot of books and make himself a nice wad of cash. Strangely enough he could have just announced this in a Science magazine and made next to nothing but waited until he had a book out to announce it.

I read somewhere that some test proved it's only 500 years old.

It's certainly very thought provoking, although for every test that's been done on it to counteract religious claims there's been one that's in someway supported and backed them up. I guess we'll never really know ultimately.
