Animal Slaughter: Kosher, Halal, Shechita, Dhabihah
Re: Animal Slaughter: Kosher, Halal, Shechita, Dhabihah
Sorry I didn't make my point clear enough; I know people have been against battery farming for awhile now, but the people I've seen on FB, Twitter etc kicking off about halal are the same people that wouldn't give a second thought to eating a battery farmed chicken.

Read 'God is not great' by Hitchens this weekend, has a chapter on religion and pigs. I'm not sure I 100% agree with all his points, but it's interesting. Muslims did not always forbid Pork and indeed neither did Jews. He posits pigs taste and scream like humans, so historically this put people off.
In the Spanish Inquisition, charcuterie became more prominent, they'd force Jewish or Muslim converts to eat some pork cuts to prove their new faith
