It's a given that a new Metallica album won't really be original from now on. Or if it is then it's terrible (St Anger, admittedly not really theirs but Lulu). I'd rather have a copy of their better album than a copy of their rubbish albums if it has to be a copy.
True, good point - just reread your post and that's obviously what you meant. My mistake!

Still.. fans like that <grr>

Yeah it is ridiculous! Why be a fan of a band if you're not alright with them evolving. It must be so boring only liking one style of music!

Agreed definitely, the more a band evolves or tries new things the more respect I have for their work, even if its not amazing. There's a band called Ulver who I got into as a teenager (not incredible but certainly not bad either) who released albums as follows:

1. Black Metal
2. Folk + Monk Chanting
3. Extremely lo-fi Black Metal
4. Spoken word/avant garde rock
5. Trip hop/avant garde downtempo electronica
6. Experimental electro-rock
7. Vocal ambient
8. Electro rock

With some random EPs along the way experimenting with all sorts of stuff. You see some of their fans along the way complaining that they don't go back to metal or trip hop or whatever, but they keep chugging along trying new stuff and good for them, I say.

I bought 'Blues Funeral' by the Mark Lanegan Band last night on Amazon. First heard his voice when he sang in The Screaming Trees and since then I've bought most of his albums when he went 'solo'.

Can't wait until it arrives. The guy has such an incredible voice.

Be interesting to see what their new album delivers!
Late reply but I couldn't disagree more.

If you actually listen to the whole of Conspiracy of one, Americana or Splinter, they have still generally retained their punk sound. It's their singles that sound incredibly different to most of the material they released, but the "filler" tracks on the albums are still awesome.

Obviously because they started off on Epitaph they will be slated for 'selling out', but I actually prefer the catchier, faster songs like Have you Ever, Staring at the Sun, All I Want etc to the songs on Smash.
I love the Gouff.

Just read this!

Ulver sound like an amazing band! Anybody that can pull off lo fi Black Metal, Spoken Word and Trip Hop in consecutive albums deserves to be seriously applauded <laugh> I'll give them a look up.

Within 2 albums! Not bad going really, and yes that first video really is full album quality. I'm not a huge fan, as I say, but it's certainly worthy of respect the amount of ground they've dared to cover and probably alienated a ton of fans in the process.

Edit - fun fact: in an episode of season 1 in the sopranos, somebody who obviously worked on props stuck up an Ulver poster in Meadow's bedroom <laugh>.

<laugh> I was listening to one of the other Of Wolf And Fear tracks and it starts off with a popesque riff as well. They even have changing styles within songs!

The poster's from that top album as well, the metal one <laugh>

Cypruss Hill are set to release a new album too. Never too much of a fan though.

2014 seems like an awesome year for new albums. Already had new albums from: Sun Kil Moon, John Frusciante, Lykke Li, Conor Oberst, Hamilton Leithauser, First Aid Kit (on Monday), and maybe a chance of a new Death Cab for Cutie one as well.

Saw them at Glasto last year without having heard of them at all. They're unbelievably good live <awe>

Already had new albums from Pixies (disappointing) and Echo and the Bunnymen (excellent) this year. So not really bothered if there aren't any more released this year.

Am I selfish or what!?
