Mayweather vs. McGregor

Post by Chappy » Fri Jun 16, 2017 6:08 am

So it's actually happening. What a load of s****. Pair of them and ESPN will be laughing their t*** off.

Read a quip on the BBC yesterday that had me giggling all day.

Finally we'll have an answer to that age old question. Who is the best at boxing; a professional boxer or someone else?

There's a video of McGregor sparring a fairly average boxer and he is getting absolutely tortured.

Should be an easy Mayweather win unless they want to make it more glamorous. Expecting Mayweather to toy with him for 7/8 rounds before a knockout then an MMA rematch next year.

Can't see Mayweather knocking him out. The only way McGregor has any chance at all is if Mayweather goes at him and leaves himself open and Mayweather has too much to lose, so he'll be his usual boring defensive self.

As for an MMA match, no chance. It'd be over in 30 seconds.
I dunno

It's an absolute panto... it'll go the full 12 rounds. Floyd's 40, he's broke his hands numerous times, and I don't think he has the power to knock him out anyway. And Floyd has never took risks, he's too smart - and he won't start now. He has everything to lose. If McGregor loses it's no big deal, he takes his £100m and goes back to MMA without a scratch on his face. There'll be little action.

It's a shame that there are enough people dumb enough who will pay to watch this

This sums up everything i despise about Mayweather, he would rather take a farce of a fight just for the money rather than actually go into a challenging boxing match, he ducks far too often and has fighters hand picked for him, he would never accept a fight he had a chance of losing and that will tarnish his legacy massively.

You can say that about boxing in general nowadays tbh. It's all very political and promoters protect their fighters unless there's millions to be made. "If it don't make money, it don't make sense". There's perhaps a handful of fighters in the sport (if that) that genuinely do want to fight everyone they can. Money runs the show. I wonder how long before it ruins MMA.

This is going to be an awesome event
I know people would complain if they charged for a press conference, and now people are complaining that its free?
I am excited about the media coverage of this and the fight, I am a fan of all things combat.

Does anyone know if there has been any behind the scenes build-up stuff for this fight?

Like HBO's 24/7 or Showtime's All Access...

I'm no McGregor fan and Floyd clearly has the boxing advantage, but its pretty annoying how the boxing community are being so arrogant in terms of how they are calling the fight, anyone would think McGregor is just some random dude they dragged off the street with the way they are going on, end of the day hes still a trained professional fighter with great fitness and fight discipline, id love to see McGregor come out on top in this just to embarrass a lot of people in the boxing world.

Forget this side of the forum exists, they should merge all the other boards outside of the Main boards with the General Discussion for chat outside of football.

Looking forward to this fight tbh, bit of a circus fight like but will be interesting. There's a load of good build up on YouTube channels; UFC, MMAFightingonSBN, SHOWTIME, mmadigest, IFLTV.

Love boxing and I love MMA, probably take more notice of them than the footy these days tbh. Sure it's not a lb for lb type fight like GGG vs Canelo or a Fury vs AJ, but interesting to see how arguably the two biggest stars in each sport will do against each other.

Well, the best boxer of our generation is definitely better than a guy who's never boxed before... Huh...

Thought McGregor did well technically but absolutely 0 power on any of his punches. I predicted a 10th round stoppage but didn't bet <wah>

Yep, didn't watch it as it was a circus show but entirely predicable.

This.
He did well in the first 3/4 rounds with his jab and keeping Mayweather away but his combo/1-2 punches were embarrassing, they wouldn't of even hurt a 5 year old.
