Strachan resigns, who will be next?

Post by NickKIELCEPoland » Thu Oct 12, 2017 8:37 pm

Gordon Strachan has resigned as Scotland manager. Who will replace him? Here is a list of excellent candidates for the job;
Paul Lambert, Dougie Freedman, Malky Mackay, Alex Ferguson, David Moyes, Graeme Souness, George Graham, Kenny Dalglish, George Burley, Alex McLeish and Walter Smith have all impressed as manager, but some of them are a bit long in the tooth, but NOT(!!!) all of them.

As a Scot, I'd take none of them.

Your excellent candidates are a list of utter s***.

My dad and Grandad are Scottish so I have a vested interest in Scottish football - more so the fortunes of Aberdeen, who my Grandad worships - would you take McInnes OT? Building a very decent reputation for himself by the sounds of it but not entirely sure he has the experience yet and I don't know if the SFA will be buying out any contracts.

My dad wants Klinsmann but I think that's a pipe dream.

Got to be better than Moyes or Mackay though <erk>

Happily take McInnes as next manager but he has to be given time.

For me, he's prepared to play young players with potential.

I'll miss Strachan because we've seen the team improve during his tenure but he never really gave emerging talent a go.

As if he'd even have to think about it. He's probably not stopped staring at the phone since Strachan left.

Heard on Radio 5 this morning that Ally McCoists' choice, for what it's worth, would be Fat Sam so would this make him the first person to manage both England & Scotland?

Allardyce would do a good job, and probably the best option open to them if he was interested. Not sure if anyone has managed both Scotland and England.

There are always two discussions when an international managerial post becomes vacant. There's the decision about which domestic (in this case Scottish) manager would be best suited, and there's the decision about which manager in general would be best suited. Opinion about whether a manager should be domestic or not is divided, and therefore, there will always be those two discussions.

I suppose there is a third discussion - those who would rather the manager be domestic, but, if the choice was between Guardiola and Billy Connolly, would opt for Guardiola.

I think the Scotland job will be quite an attractive proposition just now. I think most people will agree that Scotland seem to be on an upward trajectory, and it will be far easier to get to Euro 2020 than it was trying to get to the World Cup 2018. There will be 24 teams in Euro 2020, and there will only be 14 European teams in the World Cup 2018.

Note for people who aren't very good at thinking - the fact that Scotland failed to get to Euro 2016, where there were also 24 European teams doesn't mean that it isn't easier to get to a competition with 24 European teams than it is to get to a competition where there are 14 European teams.
