I'm looking for a good whisky to have with a cigar. Usually I have a cigar with coffee, as they go well together, and every whisky I've had with a cigar in the past hasn't gone well (probably because they were Speyside Malts and the cigar ruined the flavour as Speyside Whiskies are sweet). So will probably have to be an Islay Whisky...

Any ideas?
I've never smoked and don't like peaty whisky so I'm out <laugh>

I'd guess you maybe only want a moderately peaty one as if a cigar is very smokey (I don't know) then you wouldn't want a real peat monster as they'd clash <scratch>

Maduros and other dark cigars are generally going to kill any whisky. I'd have a Connecticut and maybe something like highland park 12 or 18 , mild peat, or perhaps something a bit stronger like laphroaig 10 if you like peat monsters.

I generally find bourbon goes better with cigars, the higher proofs like turkey 101 or stagg jnr do a pretty good job of stripping the ash taste from your mouth.

I tried Bulleit Rye this weekend. Thought it was very average. Prefer the original

Not really in the UK, Bulleit is good value for money, occasionally Woodford is similar but only during special occasions. I had a lovely Old Fashioned in The Botanist yesterday made with Woodford Reserve which was lush <ok>

It's my birthday next week so treated myself to a couple of Nikka from the Barrel last night, lovely stuff. A nice smokey edge to it rather than being overpowering <cheers>

Did you order some?

It tastes exactly how I remember, can't think of a better bottle for £40.

Mrs BB is getting me a bottle for my birthday <cheers>

I've only had one bottle of if before, must have been 5 or 6 years ago but remember it was decent.

Had a couple of bottles. It's ok, not amazing though. I thought it was a bit too oaky. Certainly not worth $100+ that people pay for it on secondary market here.

It's very oaky, and that's what I like about it. Slightly bitter aftertaste with some sourness and dryness from the oak, and loads of vanilla. Bloody lovely.

Compared to other bourbons in the UK for around £40 it has something about it.

Picked up a bottle of Henry McKenner today. Thought I'd try and see for myself why the interwebs are wetting themselves over it.
