I don't mind Marmite! I don't ever buy it, but will sometimes have it on toast at breakfast in a hotel or something. I love the Marmite crisps .Micky Quim wrote:I would try them, cant be any worse than marmite
The only food I truly despise is celery. f***ing awful stuff. I can eat just about anything else.

Totally agree. Celery is an atrocity and should be banned. Is also pretty much the only food I dislike enough to refuse to eat, kidney being the other.bigbelgiandave wrote:I don't mind Marmite! Celery is definitely horrific.

Cucumber is far worse than Celery (which is only good in stews)

I've learned to at least put up with celery. Nice with blue cheese.

I don't think I've ever had kidney. Not sure which decade you grew up in, but it seems to be a common theme among people who grew up in the 70s or 80s to find things like kidney, liver and tripe absolutely disgusting.Ciudad Burro wrote:Totally agree. Yeah, I was born in '68 (50 this year) so grew up in that period. And yes I don't think younger people have been exposed to those sort of foods so much, if at all, and they are lucky.bigbelgiandave wrote:I don't think I've ever had kidney. Same applies to foods like spam and to a lesser extent corned beef, which were staples for me as a kid. Although I liked those and still do.

My current fave, discovered by accident as both ingredients needed eating up so I bunged them in a sandwich together, is corned beef and coleslaw. Nectar (or is it Ambrosia always mix them up?)

Re: The Message of Awe Thread
I love a devilled kidney.
My sister is 10 years younger than myself and has a few phobias about food, one main one was offal so I took her to a place where offal is the speciality and she really enjoyed it.
I'd never really enjoyed tripe myself until I went to Italy and it was very tasty.

I'd never heard of Pek, although just googled it. Is it a northern thing?bigbelgiandave wrote:Ciudad Burro wrote:

Re: The Message of Awe Thread
I didn't think it was, but quite a lot of people I've spoken to, on the popular subject of tinned meats, have not heard of it. If you like Spam and corned beef, then you'd definitely like Pek .Ciudad Burro wrote:I'd never heard of Pek, although just googled it. Is it a northern thing?bigbelgiandave wrote:

Re: The Message of Awe Thread
Pek seems to be salted pork so you could likely make a tasty Olla Podrida with that.
