Best of luck to the lad. As said before if he wasn't happy then you couldn't force him to stay. Hopefully now the €10 is reinvested into a number 10 or striker
Won't even get you a championship level 10 or striker..

Obviously don't mean pay €10 for a striker but it would go towards the fee
I'll Hazard a guess

It looks like he's gone into the witness protection program

Shame, but if its for family reasons I can understand. Couple of stretches in that article though, him being a mainstay in the side and making great strides as a holding midfielder. We were awful until Diame emerged halfway through the season and Hayden barely got a look in afterwards. He's definitely got potential, but by no means the finished article.

Does mean a lack of depth in centre mid though though with Merino going as well. Unless we keep Colback...

Yeah Hayden is okay as a squad player but quite easily replaceable.

What made me laugh is yesterday the chronicle wrote a piece basically saying merino had no fight and left because he got dropped. The piece used Hayden as an example of somebody who is willing to fight for his place and Merino should be more like him then not 24 hours later Hayden hands a transfer request in.

With this, merino leaving and mbema being told not to report back to training or squad is looking mighty thin at the moment.

It's not. We have 28 first team (over 21) players on our books and the maximum squad size is 25. We have to clear some out if we want to add to the squad.

Mbemba, Mitro, Colback, Darlow and now Hayden all look to be off which would free up 2 squad places.

Hopefully we can get shot of Sels, Lazaar, Saivet and maybe one of Gayle/Joselu as well to free up another 3 or 4 squad places and allow us to sign some players.

Hayden is a very solid Championship midfielder but for me he's not Premier League class, not even for a club struggling at the lower end of the division.

Looking back over that squad list, we aren't far off a decent squad. At the very least I'd say we need 4 signings. Ideally 6 would be great but it depends if we can clear out a few first.

GK:
1st choice - Dubravka
Back up - Elliot, (with Woodman U21)

RB:
1st choice - Yedlin
Back up - Sterry

CB:
1st choice - Lascelles, Lejeune
Back up - Clark, NEW CB

LB:
1st choice - Dummett
Back up - Manquillo

CM :
1st choice - Shelvey, Diame
Back up - Ki, NEW CM

RW:
1st choice - Ritchie
Back up - Murphy

10:
1st choice - NEW 10
Back up - Perez

LW:
1st choice - Kenedy
Back up - Atsu/Aarons

CF:
1st choice - NEW CF
Back up - Gayle/Joselu, (with Armstrong U21)

Not needed: Darlow, Sels, Mbemba, Lazaar, Hayden, Colback, Saivet, Mitrovic and one of Galyle/Joselu.

That would free up 6 squad places if we could shift those 9. At a minimum I'd say we need a 1st choice CF, a 1st choice 10, a CM and a CB. Those 4 signings are the minimum we need to improve the squad on last season. That would leave 2 squad places free.

The Ritchie for Townsend upgrade seems likely as well but that won't impact on available squad places.

I'd say our back up full backs look weak as does our back up CF. So I'd use the remaining 2 squad places on signings in those areas if we can.

There is definitely 8 players on that list we need to ideally move on, that would leave us with needing 5 additions to make up the first team squad

Sels
Mbemba -Replace
Lazaar
Hayden - Replace
Colback
Saivet
Gayle - Replace
Mitro - Replace

Add - #10

Even with Ashley being a tight arse prick that is pretty achievable, money coming in for those 8 added to the peanuts we already have, it could go some way to replacing them with 5 that we need.

I'd be very worried if we were having to start Sterry or Manquillo. Our strike force is a real concern and should be the main focus tho.

Ins Potentially £90m - £100m

Badou Ndiaye £15m
Thorgan Hazard £18m (if true <fist> )
Townsend £18m-20m
Striker £25m-30m
Striker £10m
Defender £5m-8m

Outs potentially £80m -£90m
Mitro £20-25m
Gayle £13m-15m
Ritchie £15m
Merino £10m
Hayden £10m
Mbemba £6m-8m
Sels,Lazaar,Colback,Saivet Combined £ 6-8m

Obviously all theoretical, but we can potentially break even or at the least have a net spend of only £10-15m if the above transfers were to happen. also leaves us with the potential of replacing the fullbacks.

Rafa has started following David Luiz on instagram. We might be signing him.

Problem is we can't sell anyone on, the only reason merino went is he had an escape clause and Ashley couldn't mess it up with his over the top prices.

Most of these players are on massive wages that clubs they should be playing at just can't match - Hayden handing in a transfer request and Rafa saying (if he has) you can leave means nothing to Ashley, he'll want double his money back.
