There’s an 18 y/o apprentice at work who’s first memories of WC football is 2010, how fkn old does that make you feel!Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Mon Jul 16, 2018 11:12 amYeah, agree with that. Better than 2014 and 2010, can't really remember 2006. Japan and South Korea in 2002 was quite good from memory.Japan Papa Goku wrote: ↑Mon Jul 16, 2018 8:38 amFootball wasn't the greatest but I would say it's been the most entertaining World Cup that I can remember. France had been the most consistent team throughout and were worthy winners.

USA 94 for me (vague memory of), Euro 96 / France 98 moreso.

First World Cup memory is Beckham's free kick vs Colombia in '98 and my Dad going ballistic (my Dad is Scottish) and turning the TV off in a huff
Now I feel disgustingly old

Hate to say this but the first World Cup I remember as a kid was back in 1966 and that was some competition.
My dad saw Pele kicked off the pitch at Goodison Park.

Chile sixty-two is as far back as I go,
Remembered for the Battle of Santiago,
No diving or simulation,
Or other such affectation,
Hardly an advert for the beautiful game,
The apparent goal was simply to maim.

Vague France 98 memories but the first proper one I remember is 02, Becks scoring vs Argentina and watching the ball float over Seaman's head vs Brazil Watched the Brazil game at school

France '98 for me. Remember the Tunisia & Argentina games.
I was on holiday with the family in Tenerife (I think - one of the Canary Islands, anyway) for the Argentina game and the Spanish bloke at the hotel came out in an Argentina top before kick off... the cronut. Becks penno was so sweetBlue & Maroon wrote: ↑Tue Jul 17, 2018 10:18 amVague France 98 memories but the first proper one I remember is 02, Becks scoring vs Argentina and watching the ball float over Seaman's head vs Brazil Watched the Brazil game at school
It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

Favourite goal was either the Dier penalty in the shootout or the Trippier free kick. Top moments.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Mon Jul 16, 2018 11:34 amDefinitely the most entertaining and open final that I can remember.lblancsson wrote: ↑Mon Jul 16, 2018 11:21 amFrance were worthy winners the game against Argentina being the highlight for me.
Great final too one of the best I can remember
One of my highlights was Spain 3-3 Portugal. My favorite goal was the Belgian counter-attack v Japan to win the match with the last kick of the game. Team goal (keeper to midfielder to winger, great dummy from Lukaku and Chadli there to slot home) and sealed a great comeback win.
