Summer Transfers Rated
So the window is closed and we now know our squad until January (barring free agent signings) so how do people rate our overall window and the players brought in
On a scale of 1-5
1- Why did we sign him?
2. Could have been worse
3. Good, will do a job
4. Very good- what we needed
5. Excellent signing- fan favorite potential
----------------
For the overall score I'd say 2 for the budget Rafa was given he has brought in some good players, the lack of left back and number 10 is a worry though.
Signings rated
Dubravka- 4.5 - Was one of the reasons we finished 10th last year and avoided relegation too. A big second season for him though hopefully he can continue where he left off.
Kenedy- 4- Like Dubravka was instrumental in pulling us away from danger, again shall see what he does in second season but he could well drift into the 5 scale if he performs like he did last year.
Ki- 3.5- will add to our midfield and brings PL and international experience
Schar 3- For the fee we paid and with his experience I'd be tempted to rate this one higher but I'm going to go for a 3 just to be on the fence, he'll most likely get game time given Flo's injury so it may be a nice baptism of fire for him given our start.
Muto- 3- From the small glimpses I've seen of him he has the potential, will be interesting to see how he is used will he be a number 9,10 or on the wing? (p.s. I still don't think he is a number 10 and should only be used there if 100% necessary)
Rondon- 3- Again he'll do a job, If Rafa can help him rediscover the Rondon of pre West Brom then he'll be a very good signing
Fernandez- 2- I think this was slight panic after Flo's injury but it could have been worse, he brings PL experience, Rafa knows him and I wouldn't 100% fear him stepping in if needed, something I would have been wary of had we brought in Marlon Santos given his age.

Overall I'd say the window was a 3/5. We'll definitely be in the bottom half rather than looking up the table tho.

Re: Summer Transfers Rated
Dubravka - 5... solid keeper and already a fans favourite imo.
Kenedy - 5... brings some attacking flair to the side which we're lacking.
Ki - 3... I think he could do well here
Schär - 4... I think we've done great business here. £3m for a solid defender with plenty of international experience.
Muto - 3... I don't know anything about the lad but have faith in Rafa's plans. He could be our signing of the season, who knows?
Rondon - 3... wasn't overly excited about this signing but it's an upgrade on what we've got at least. Looking forward to seeing how he does in our team under Rafa.
Fernandez - 2... squad player. Wasn't one of Rafa's main targets, but he's worked with him before so will have no trouble fitting into Rafa's way of playing.

got two great players in with Dubravka and Kennedy, solid players in Ki and Schar, and then the rest are average. Nothing terrible, nothing shocking, nothing outstanding. Average season ahead.

Colback - loan
Saivet - loan
Toney - £500k
Armstrong - £1.75m
Mitrovic - £22m
Merino - £10m
Mbemba - £6m
Gayle - loan
Sels - £4m
So just over £44m made, spent about £25m plus loan fees, so probably closer to £30m. Still a nice little £14m summer bonus for Ashley.

Considering the constraints Rafa was under, I think he has done fantastically well. No, it's not what he wanted, and yes we should have at least bought/loaned a LB (Again, not Rafa's fault) but he's STILL managed to upgrade our squad. I doth my cap off to him. You just wonder what our team/squad would look like with even just a little bit of cash injection.

Yes, our likely starting XI this season will look stronger than last seasons so he's done well. Like you say, imagine what he could do if we had an owner that had even the slightest bit of ambition.originallad wrote: ↑Fri Aug 10, 2018 9:18 amConsidering the constraints Rafa was under, I think he has done fantastically well. House of Fraser gets a 5 - decent enough purchase.

I still think we needed a right back far more than a left back.

Because Yedlin is pretty naff and Manquillo can cover both sides equally naffly. Our right hand side is way more exposed than our left.

I'm sure he will but it still won't stop Yedlin being the weak link in our defense. He's reasonable, but defensively suspect and doesn't add enough going forward to make up for that. Would've been one of my priority areas without question.
Otherwise I'm relatively happy, looking forward to how we start tomorrow.

He had a couple of run-outs in pre-season, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Aarons and Mitro linked up well last pre-season and neither really got a chance at the start of the season.

I'm worried about it's future sell-on value. Really seems a player on the decline.

Re: Summer Transfers Rated
I thought Yedlin was a lot better in the second half of the season, and unfairly received none of the credit for the team's goals against improving.
