Re: The Message of Hate Thread
When people from Yorkshire start chanting "Yorkshire"
It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

Went to Guiseley vs Gateshead a few seasons ago and all their fans started chanting ''Yorkshire, Yorkshire'' they were give the appropriate response of ''wankers, wankers'' ''sheep ****'' and differing variations of hand gestures
Also (bit more SFW) ''Now then'' always makes me think I'm in the s***.

I once received an email from a supplier who said he wasn't "orfay" with a particular part of the system .
Kindly deeds done for free!

Something I've noticed in recent years in US films and tv shows. They keep using bring when they should say take.
E.g. Ramsay Bolton "bring Lady Sansa back to her rooms"
Boils my piss every time I hear them get it wrong.

I didn't fancy cooking last night so I stopped off on the way home and got a bring-away.Donkey Toon wrote: ↑Wed Aug 22, 2018 2:20 pmSomething I've noticed in recent years in US films and tv shows. They keep using bring when they should say take.

It also annoys me when people get food delivered, and call it take-away.overseasTOON wrote: ↑Wed Aug 22, 2018 2:37 pmI didn't fancy cooking last night so I stopped off on the way home and got a bring-away.Donkey Toon wrote: ↑Wed Aug 22, 2018 2:20 pmSomething I've noticed in recent years in US films and tv shows. To be fair take-away is a term for India, Chinese, pizza and Thai etc.PTAO? wrote: ↑Wed Aug 22, 2018 2:53 pmIt also annoys me when people get food delivered, and call it take-away.overseasTOON wrote: ↑Wed Aug 22, 2018 2:37 pm

Yeah because you used to go to the restaurant, and take it away. It doesn't make any sense for a home delivery.Blue & Maroon wrote: ↑Wed Aug 22, 2018 4:51 pmTo be fair take-away is a term for India, Chinese, pizza and Thai etc.

You take the food away from the delivery driver and into your home.PTAO? wrote: ↑Wed Aug 22, 2018 2:53 pmIt also annoys me when people get food delivered, and call it take-away.overseasTOON wrote: ↑Wed Aug 22, 2018 2:37 pm

Re: The Message of Hate Thread
Well then I'm going to start calling all restaurants takeaways as I take the food away from the server and into my stomach.
Re: The Message of Hate Thread
But the food still remains in the restaurant in that scenario. To be a take away the food has to be taken away to a bew premises. Such as from a delivery car outside of a house into the house.
If you got into the delivery drivers car to eat the food then I'd agree it's not really a takeaway. However if you take the food away from the delivery driver to a location such as your house in order to consume the food then the food becomes a take away.
Re: The Message of Hate Thread
You aren't going to convince me that it's called a take away because you take it away from the driver.TJR wrote: ↑Wed Aug 22, 2018 7:34 pmBut the food still remains in the restaurant in that scenario. It's a delivery, or ordering in.

It is takeaway, just because it's not you that physically took it away, it was still taken away from the restaurant / takeaway that made it and taken to your house (or wherever you are).PTAO? wrote: ↑Wed Aug 22, 2018 2:53 pmIt also annoys me when people get food delivered, and call it take-away.overseasTOON wrote: ↑Wed Aug 22, 2018 2:37 pm

I'm the scumbag outlaw. You're the pillar of justice. Neither of us like looking at ourselves in the mirror. Do we have a deal?
Re: The Message of Hate Thread
Yes but take away suggests the taker is the subject of the sentence, which makes sense if you are the one physically taking it away, when in reality when you order it grammatically it makes more sense to call it something else.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Wed Aug 22, 2018 8:43 pmIt is takeaway, just because it's not you that physically took it away, it was still taken away from the restaurant / takeaway that made it and taken to your house (or wherever you are).
