EFL cup. Notts Forest v NUFC
Nottingham Forest (a)
Newcastle travel to Nottingham Forest in the Second Round of this season's League Cup on Wednesday - the Championship side having knocked the Magpies out of the competition at the same stage last season.
The tie is live on Sky Sports with a 7.45pm kick-off and a result must be achieved on the night via 90 minutes play or a penalty shootout (no extra time).
Tickets are on public sale from NUFC now in person only and the host club will be selling tickets on the night to home fans, but there's no confirmation whether away followers will be able to purchase any.
Four ties in this round have been selected for VAR usage, but ours isn't one of them, with the quartet comprising of top-flight sides hosting matches.
The 25 Second Round victors will take their place in the Third Round draw at 7pm on Thursday night along with the seven PL sides playing in European competition this season: Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Burnley, Chelsea and Arsenal.
Team: Florian Lejeune, Jamaal Lascelles and Jonjo Shelvey are all out due to injury and Matt Ritchie is doubtful with a knee issue.
Isaac Hayden serves the second of a three game suspension but Kenedy is available to play.
There's no place for either Rolando Aarons or Achraf Lazaar in the squad, while Jamie Sterry and Sean Longstaff are expected to be involved at some point.
The latter awaits his competitive club debut, having made his bow in the competition last season while on loan at Blackpool.
NFFC: Subject to final confirmation, on-loan Magpie midfielder Jack Colback is ineligible to appear. Adlene Guedioura misses out due to injury.
Lewis Grabban, Michael Dawson and Hillal Soudani could be rested, but SJP old boy Daryl Murphy is set to play.
The hosts made it through to this stage via a penalty shootout, beating Bury 10-9 after the sides played out a 1-1 draw at the City Ground.
Forest extended their unbeaten start to the season on Saturday with a 2-2 stalemate at Birmingham City - making it four draws and one win in the Championship.
Our last visit to the City Ground in this competition came in 2011, when goals from Peter Lovenkrands (2), Danny Simpson and Fabricio Coloccini earned a 4-3 victory in a Third Round tie.
And last season's exit came at Gallowgate, when a 97th minute winner saw Forest win 3-2, Rolando Aarons and Aleksandar Mitrovic on target for us.
Referee: Jeremy Simpson (Lancashire) whose only previous senior appointment involving ourselves was the 4-0 home win over Rotherham United during the 2016/17 promotion season.
UK TV: Live on Sky Sports (highlights on Quest TV @ 10.30pm. Quest is channel 144 on Sky, 172 on Virgin and 37 on Freeview).

Re: EFL cup. Notts Forest v NUFC
I was tempted to but thought it'd be two reserve sides so couldn't be arsed.
I'm the scumbag outlaw. You're the pillar of justice. Neither of us like looking at ourselves in the mirror. Do we have a deal?

I'll still be watching it though. Prepared for abject failure with Longstaff being the best player on the pitch.

Re: EFL cup. Notts Forest v NUFC
I'm worried we'll see Manquillo at left back but otherwise could be good fun. Opportunities to get some form for Murphy, Atsu/Kenedy, Muto, Ki, Rondon

I've thought long and hard on this team selection and narrowed it down to a winning team.

Great start. Old boy Murphy and didn't we want Sam Byram too?

Re: EFL cup. Notts Forest v NUFC
Early days but we look well off the pace and they are well up for it.
Re: EFL cup. Notts Forest v NUFC
first missed chance for us, good all around movement first on a long ball from Ki in left-mid to Atsu towards the right win who headed it back to Sterry, who put a good cross in for Joselu who seemed to only grace it before Muto failed to get to it at the back post in time, though he was offsides anyways.
Re: EFL cup. Notts Forest v NUFC
Joselu is no Daryl Murphy

Don't know how a side can play such decent football going forward and look comfortable on the ball but s*** themselves every time their opponents have it
