Match day thread - Liverpool v NUFC

Post by Toondes » Wed Dec 26, 2018 9:36 am

Dippers (a)

Just for a change, Boxing Day sees United on the road again, heading to Anfield for a non-televised 3pm KO.

All tickets have been sold -allocation size tbc.

NUFC: Ki Sungyueng is unavailable after linking up with the South Korea squad for next month's Asian Cup. It remains to be seen whether Ciaran Clark, Karl Darlow or Jonjo Shelvey are in the squad after injury absences.

Coral matchday betting is online here

Coral rate Newcastle 22/1 to win at Anfield for the first time in the 21st century, with the home side 2/13 for the victory. The draw is 13/2.

(What ended up as a 1-2 defeat at Manchester City in September was priced at 28/1 for a Toon success, City win at 2/13 and the draw 17/2).

Coral's latest new customer offer is £30 in free bets for new registrations betting £10. Find that online here

Their "Your Call" option allows you to create bespoke odds and we've cobbled a few examples together:

LFC win to nil, score in both halves 7/4
0-0 at half time, NUFC not score, LFC win 11/2
Match drawn, LFC not to score in first half 11/1
LFC win 1-0 at half time, win game, both teams to score in second half 18/1

LFC: Trent Alexander-Arnold and Naby Keita are both expected to be available but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remains out, along with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

The Reds go into Christmas four points clear at the top of the Premier League and have won seven of their eight home league games this season, only Manchester City avoiding defeat in a game that ended scoreless.

The last team to leave Anfield with maximum points was Crystal Palace, 2-1 winners way back in April 2017.

Think I may give this a miss. Watch my team play defence against attack, with the added frustration of knowing that some of our fans think it tactical genius, or watch Elf? Pretty sure Elf will be more fun.

Wow, look at the line up. Looks a little bit like he is using the subs to save the starting 11 for the next game.

We're gonna get battered haha.

We'll be lined up as two banks of four defending deep, with no pretense at counter attacking. Playing for 0-0 from the start.

What else could he be thinking with a back four and both Diame and Hayden in centre midfield?

To be fair not much other options in midfield with ki gone and shelvey not fit. Longstaff not gonna make his debut starting at anfield.

Fair.

Chris Waugh suggesting it WILL be 3 at the back (Fernandez, Lascelles, and Dummet, with Yedlin and Ritchie as WBs, and Kenedy and Muto as "wide" players.

So 5-4-1 with Joselu struggling in that lone Rondon role. Sounds like fun.

Hope it will be that. Would give us some chance going forward.

Wouldn't mind seeing Schar played as DM. Not convinced by him as a CD but his passing range and composure on the ball could see him useful in that position. Can't be worse than Hayden at the very least.
