Having a bad back <neg>

Every morning for the last 2 or 3 months I wake up without fail at about 4am/5am with a sore back. Didn't bother me at first but now it's really pissing me off! The mattress is only 3 years old and I've never had a problem until this, and I've slept in 2 or 3 other beds and wake up with a sore back every time.

It's fine when I go to bed and when I wake up and start walking around - just the bit in between ffs.

Just found out that my little sister was diagnosed with MS this weekend but she's taken the news well enough under the circumstances.

She's arranged a meeting with a clinic to evaluate DMT drugs after the MRI scan showed lesions on the brain and spine.

Seems she's only in the relapse remitting phase so hopeful that DMT can slow any progressive deterioration down.

Really didn't know what to say to her when she told me. I just went quiet and tried to take it all in which didnt go down well so I resorted to trying to make her laugh for a while.

I've got a lot of reading up to do to try and understand what MS really is.

So sorry to hear this mate. My Aunt has had it for 30 years and it’s undoubtedly been really hard.

For what it’s worth, she’s found yoga and swimming classes really helpful in slowing down the advancement of it. She’s been stable for 5 years or so now - and she’s in her early 60s. Hers is primarily in her leg, which she essentially can’t bend, but I would imagine there would be other specialist exercise classes that can help your sister stay active and mobile.

Plus, it’s not implausible that there could be much better management/cures in a decade or so. Stay positive and PM any time <ok>

My Auntie has had it since her 20s, she's 72 now. It didn't really effect her life too much until she was in her 40s but she is happy and has three kids who are all well.

Check out Ofatumumab - it was being developed for MS, not sure how the clinical trials played out but it was meant to be a revolutionary new drug. <ok>

Cheers all.

Stayed up until the early hours of the morning reading up about it all and my concerns and worries are allayed. Come pay day I'll get all my family together for a weekend, take her out for a meal and a few gins and cheer her up a bit.

My dad has had it for nearly 20 years now, albeit in the secondary progressive stage. Feel free to DM me if you wish, my dad has had lots of drug trails.

The key thing is to find a good consultant for the journey, one who understands the importance of balancing pain management and being cogent so you can continue to work and live your life.

The biggest challenges for us have been mental. Whilst we think after 20 years my dad's memory isn't as it used to be (age also a factor), in the main MS is only physical. It's a pain when people see a wheelchair* and speak to the carer "How is he? Does he want a drink?". *Hopefully your sister won't be in a wheelchair

re: making her laugh. Having humour about this is gonna be key. Your sister will have plenty of time/people asking her how hard it is, someone to make fun of the situation mat well help.

Sorry to hear that oT. My ex was diagnosed with it as well so I understand the initial fear. Like others have said getting a good consultant will help immensely.

Here's hoping that it was caught early or is a mild case. My ex had had it ten years before there was a noticeable symptom and with treatment she has gone another 15 years with only minor progression and is still able to lead a very normal active life.

Got my fingers crossed for you both!

I have a cold. I'm pretty sure that it is the worst cold anyone has ever experienced. But can I take tomorrow off? Nooo, because if I do no one will do anything!

Agreed. s**** sport almost impossible to watch. Break in play every other minute so they can swap players and have 5 mins of adverts.

Also all that body armour and helmets and they don't even tackle properly, it's grappling at best. Beyond pathetic.
