Match thread - Toon vs Citeh

Post by Toondes » Tue Jan 29, 2019 4:33 pm

Manchester City (h)

The defending Premier League champions provide the opposition at SJP tonight (Tuesday) in an 8pm kickoff live on BT Sport.

Tickets remain on public sale.

NUFC: Mo Diame, Paul Dummett, Jonjo Shelvey and Ki remain sidelined and Joselu is also out. Yoshinori Muto is still on international duty with Japan, with their qualification for the final meaning that he'll not be available for Saturday's Spurs game.

Coral match betting is online here

A home win is rated at a mere 16/1, while the draw comes in at 11/2. NUFC to win 1-0 is 40/1.

MCFC: Vincent Kompany is out and Benjamin Mendy is doubtful.

The Citizens scored five goals without reply to eliminate Burnley from the FA Cup on Saturday.

Their record in 2019 is as follows:

Liverpool (h) won 2-1 PL
Rotherham United (h) won 7-0 FA
Burton Albion (h) won 9-0 LC
Wolves (h) won 3-0 PL
Huddersfield Town (a) won 3-0 PL
Burton Albion (a) won 1-0 LC
Burnley (h) won 5-0 FA

On the road in the Premier League this season, Pep Guardiola's side have won seven, drawn two and lost two. The points were shared with Wolves (1-1) and Liverpool (0-0) and defeats came at Chelsea (0-2) and Leicester City (1-2).

That's already more points dropped than in 2018/19, when their away record was 16 wins, two draws and one loss.

If you aren't going to SJP, The Ware Rooms on Carliol Square have the game on their big screen TVs with various food and drink offers.

The Ware Rooms are at 17 Carliol Square NE1 6UQ - 5 minutes walk from both Monument and Manors Metro.

Well this is going to be an embarrassment. I'm glad that since I can never watch mid-week matches, it's a side we have no hope of beating and I'm not missing much.

as much as I dislike Mourinho he was smart enough to take Rondon out of the game in our first game of 2019 and force us to find other ways to create scoring opportunities (we failed at that, of course). I expect Pep to do the same. I just kind of hope Rafa has something ready to counter that (I know, bring on the jokes).

Hadn't Mourinho been sacked by then?

The atmosphere is going to be toxic tonight by the sound of things. People planning to throw stuff on the pitch, people taking whistles to force the game to be stopped, the leaflet thing, suggestions of possible pitch invasions and storming the directors box have all been mentioned on twitter.

The club have already banned one fan today for what they describe as 'inciting a riot'. Though apparently the allegations are false and the club have actually come under more scrutiny for banning the fan.

I'm not even going to bother to put a bet on us to lose. I don't have £400 just to win a tenner.

I'll eat my hat if anything other than a couple of leaflets happen.

In other news, I am now wearing 3 (three) pairs of socks.

Lots of kids on Twitter trying to act hard saying they’re going to kick off. In reality it’ll be a few leaflets and that’s it.

...and story leaked that Almiron is on his way to Newcastle for a medical JUST in time for the match to maybe lighten the atmosphere?

Deals agreed for Almiron, Barreca and Samaris tonight. All subject to medicals but they should help to improve the atmosphere a bit.

Given Rafa has admitted he gagged himself this January, don't be surprised when he pulls a gimp mask out of his coat sleeve and asks Pep to smack his ass.

With four new players on the horizon, the starting XI tonight will be spurred on and put in a shift and hammer Man City 5-0.
