Very tough second league in Spain 2018-19

Post by daib0 » Sun Feb 17, 2019 8:12 pm

Here's the second tier in Spain as of tonight:

Played - Goals - Points

1. Albacete 26 36:21 49

2. Malaga 26 28:18 48

--------------------

3. Osasuna 26 34:25 48

4. La Coruna 26 37:19 47

5. Granada 26 32:18 47

6. R. Oviedo 26 31:30 42

--------------------

7. Cadiz 26 34:21 41

8. Mallorca 26 32:24 40

No-one can really assert themselves - but clearly the best on current form are Osasuna and Oviedo...

but take into account that ALL 8 shown teams have a vast experience in the top tier of 'La Liga'.

Anyone you have a soft spot for??

Probably Deportivo just because when I was growing up they were pretty decent with the likes of Valeron and Diego Tristan.
I'm the scumbag outlaw. You're the pillar of justice. Neither of us like looking at ourselves in the mirror. Do we have a deal?

My dad lives near Coruna so always Depor for me. Not to mention our shared links of Colo, Schar, Xisco <love> and that massive f***ing trophy.

I know a Spanish scout from rovers who has shares in them too.

Tbh the more I think of it a fan collective would be the best way to get Ashley out.

Whilst we on the theme of the Second Division -
Latest on REUS
On 18 January 2019, the LFP suspended the rights of Reus to continue competing in La Liga and ten days later the club was expelled from the competition for three years plus a fine of €250,000 due to the nonpayment of players' salaries. After six players were forced to leave due to unpaid wages, Reus have been banned from competing professionally in Spain for three years.
The club's financial woes have been well documented in Spain, with majority shareholder and chief executive Joan Oliver pleading for patience and forgiveness from fans at the end of December. Oliver's hope was he could sell the club to a wealthy investor, despite their estimated debt of €5.2million.

The operating costs and capital costs of doing business in the PL make that pretty impossible - especially to buy in at this point. You even see how fan owned clubs in Germany and Spain have changed how they do business the last little while as financial demands have increased.

All that said, it has worked to save some clubs, Portsmouth another example, which might get promoted back to the Championship this year.

Osasuna now top ...

and going for a high quality ground in just two years, with 25,000 capacity and sections of 'rail-seats' ...
