Oh I don't disagree about that kind of fee and time, I'm more so thinking about not wanting the club to be saddled with his salary in 4-5 years. But if they could pay a fee like that and sign him to a 3 year deal, I'd think that good.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2019 2:57 pmI think that if we can get Rondon for around £15m and get 2 or 3 seasons similar to this one then it’s an excellent deal. That’s still a cheap fee by today’s standards.

This. Get him on a three year contract. His style of play has never been relying on agility, speed or movement were when you lose that explosive pace / legs then it's a problem but his style is more to do with his strength, power, physicality, hold-up / link-up play and aerial threat in the air. Plus he's shown he may not be clinical but he's a decent finisher and can strike a ball (as shown by his set-piece ability). He's going to be 30 in September and by the time the contract finishes say in 2022 June he'll still be 32. There's attackers like Teddy Sherinhgam, Dean Windass, Tugay, Andy Cole, Les Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs, etc who have all lasted and played well in there mid to late 30's and look at Glen Murray who's approaching 36 in September and still playing at a decent level in the Premier League and scoring goals. I'm not saying Rondon will last that long at this level but he's the type of player who can do the business for another 2 - 3 years easily then go on and play for a couple of more years in a more slow paced technical league in Europe like La Liga, Seria A, Ligue 1, etc.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2019 2:57 pmI think that if we can get Rondon for around £15m and get 2 or 3 seasons similar to this one then it’s an excellent deal. From NUFC.com
It's reported by the Telegraph newspaper and other media outlets that face to face talks between Newcastle owner Mike Ashley and manager Rafa Benitez are scheduled to take place today.
An undisclosed venue in London is claimed.

^ I'd rather the Italian press be bigging us up than a move to Italy, as I'd have to think they'd be biased towards the latter.

There is a lot of movement in the academy set up, that tells me Rafa is all but signed up considering that's reported to be an area he wants assurances on. We wouldnt put a set up in place if negotiations weren't coming close to a conclusion
